window delamination

Hello to all, I know its not a new problem, but the front o/side window of our swift conqueror has come apart- ie both panes have separated from each other.Are these glued together or thermally electrically sealed?I'm looking to repair this myself if possible.Any advice/tips greatly appreciated, cheers stuart1

Hi mine had been superglued together again, this did work for abit untill I was out last week and the top part of the window got the wind under it and just lifted off and snaped never to be seen again.

An update to my original post: today I went to the storage compound and removed the front window, cleaned and dried both panes and applied a clear marine sealant - it has good temperature accomodation -55 to plus150c and 25 % movement.We are away for 1 week on saturday, towing down to hampshire,and I will update this post when we get back with regards to the repair, and hope that it will help others with the same problem, all the best, stuart1 ps 2006 model swift, all other windows ok - so far!

An update: Towed van down to hampshire last Sat. on A and B roads, came back yesterday and window is fine, and water tight.The silicone I used is Dow Corning Marine clear, It's widely available and simple to use. The whole job took me less than an hour.Hope this helps anyone in a similar situation.

Hi Stuart..........Please be very careful....because you have now modified the original design,any subsequent injury caused by another delamination, could go against you in any insurance claim.....at the very least I would use the Burstner 4 bolt system, which although is not satisfactory from the water ingress problem should hold the window together and give you some warning if the adhesive breaks down.

When the window delaminates at speed, the broken edge is very sharp and lethal if it hits someone.

Swift do not seem to be aware of this problem, so it might be worth copying the Swift Talk forum.....we have a large number of owners in the same predicament as yourself and we will be contacting Swift in the near future.....I don't mean to be a prophet of doom (I think I spelt that right!)......hope this helps...regards Andrew

Realy for Andrew's benefit. I am still waiting for my replacement kitchen window for my 2006 Abbey (Ordered a month ago and unlikely to arrive before end of August). In spite of Miriad refusing to sell me a window directly, they did tell me to stick my existing window back together with clear silicone sealant. 4 trips and 300 odd miles later, one gale and some twisting bumpy roads, it is still absolutely fine. Miriad advised that silicone is the only solution with windows that are no longer manufactured. They advised against any other kind of glue. As I am acting on Miriad's recommendations I am quite happy on the liability front.
