Morning Malcolm,

I know what you mean about Dyce Caravans.

I think it being a 100% family firm, they go the extra yard to make you feel welcome, and of course to keep your business. I took my sons Freelander to T&C they couldn't have been more unhelpful with a warranty problem with the brakes. So he is now looking at an XC70. Sometimes I wonder if the owners of these companies realise how much repeat business they lose due to staff !!!

Enjoy your new van, we almost bought the Louisiana, but settled on the Bessacarr in the end.

Agree with Frank, the Alde hot water circulation system with thermostat is very efficient - especially the heated towel rail. The system is fitted in my Buccaneer Elan (2000 model) and I was under the impression it was obsolete because hot air seems to have superceded it everywhere.

I'll be reluctant to change this van because of the system (I always thought hot air stifling and dry) but admit to being worried about the weight (just have to keep a big 4x4 - whoops! - going) and maintenance (no problems so far).

Frank, I haven't worked out exactly what the 1k and 2k switches actually do. I just put them both down and everything works - never felt need to boost the heating system with gas either, is that just to get the water even hotter??

Agree with Frank also, the Alde system is second to none.

As we have our 'van at home, I always "fire" up the heating two or three days before we use it, this airs it at makes it retain enough heat to still be warm when we arrive on site.

If we needed to put the heating on when away, from scratch, then would boost it with gas, as it can take a while for it to heat up, unlike the blown air.

We use the heating on 2KW, although have to be very careful when using other appliances in the 'van!!
