Winter Security Wheels

I have a set of SAS Winter Security Wheels which I fit to the caravan on the drive during winter. Not only is it added security but it also prevents flat spots on the tyres as the wheels and tyres are kept in the garage during this time. What I would like to know is that if I have a motor mover fitted to the van will there be sufficient clearance for these winter security wheels to be fitted. The van is a Bailey Ranger. Any one come across this before?

Hi colin, You should have no problem with the winter wheels in place as they are smaller than the original road tyres that are on the van.

If you are still concerned place one of the winter wheels in front of the wheel before you take it off and you will see it is smaller.

Graham - thanks for your reply. Perhaps I should mention that I have not had a motor mover fitted as yet but thinking of it ready for next year. However as we intend to keep this van now until we are ready to retire from caravanning it will be a year on year problem which must be considered prior to fitting a motor mover.

The mover will be beyond the tyre circumference and should be no problem as most winter wheels I have seen are much narrower than the wheel

I personally wouldn't use them as it would be hard to move the van in an emergency

I have a steel wheel with tyre and put that on with the steel spare wheel for winter lay ups and the alloy wheels then are stored in the garage.

With a mover fitted its easy to move the van to avoid parking with the tyres in the same position

As many insurance policies demand wheel clamps fitted it would be worth checking with your insurance co. if they are happy with using winter wheels

Do you use security nuts to bolt them on ?

Whilst ours is away in storage, if we are not using it about once every 4-6 weeks we pop up check it all over and then tow the caravan for about an hour just to keep the running gear (brakes, tyres etc) in good order, also helps keep the battery topped up.
