winter storage of tyres

I remove my caravan wheels during the winter & store them in the garden shed lay flat,I also deflatted most of the air to reduce the pressure, Is this the correct way to store the tyres for winter?

Peter, the best way to store wheels over winter is as you have done, lay flat, but keep normal pressure in them, keep in a cool dark well ventilated place.

I always remove my tyres and place at the rear of the garage standing upright during the winter spell , never had any problems,Why well I have assumed that when when you purchase new tyres they are always standing upright within the racks,so that was the correct way to store them.Regarding air pressures I check before refitting onto the van and adjust the pressure to suit if the need arises.

Tyres in garages or tyre fitting centres rarely are in store for more than a couple of weeks, if that.

Caravan tyres are in store for months!!when the van is not in use.

Tyres still fitted to wheels should be stored at normal pressure and lying flat. Tyres which have been removed from their wheels should be stored standing upright and nothing placed on top of them.

All sounds a bit over the top to me, when the information is that you only keep tyres on vans for about 5 to 6 years anyway.

Take the weight off the tyres and perhaps cover, but to keep removing them seems pointless.

I agree with you Essexeddie. I put my van up on axle stands. This also allows you keep turning thw wheels. I think it unneccessary to cover the tyres. Ken
