Winterhoff Stabiliser

Has anyone out there fitted a Winterhoff stabiliser head to an Alko chassis?
My Abbey Vogue has the Alko stabiliser but the handle catches on the Jeep spare wheel when hitching/unhitching. It seems the Winterhoff design would not.
The Winterhoff blurb says it can be retro fitted to any trailer but an advertiser on ebay says it is not suitable for Alko!!!
Any info will be gratefully received.

I believe it is easily changed but your cheaper option would be to get the removable alko handle designed for 4x4's with wheel on tailgate, then all you need is to remove the current handle.

My recently purchased Avondale on an Alko chassis has a Winterhoff stabilizer fitted. Very impressed with it - after years of Alkos

Thanks for the info, I've decided against the ALKO detachable handle as it's just another bit of hassle and gone for the Winterhoff. Only bad side to that is it's £300 including a decent hitchlock!! Still anything that makes life easier.
Just to add that I've only had a couple of posts on here but am impressed and grateful that other members take the time to answer the posts.
Rock on.

A few weeks ago, on one of the other forums there was an advert for the sale of a Winterhoff hitchlog. Maybe still there if you do a search. Bejay was selling it.

Thanks again for the comments. I've now bought and fitted the Winterhoff. It's something of a revalation!!! I have only had ALKO before and whilst that is a good product the Winterhoff is far better suited to vehicles that have a spare wheel in the way, with the bonus that there is only one handle to operate against two on the ALKO.
I got mine online from the Caravan Shop total £295 including a purpose built seven star hitchlock which was the best deal I could find.
Rock on.

When we bought our Coachman back in 2006 it was fitted with an ALKO stabiliser. I'd heard of the problems with using it with a door mounted spare (Discovery 2) so swapped for the Winterhoff and have never regretted it. Very easy to use and very compact. never causes problems with the mounted spare and feels very secure when in use.
Only potential problem is the very high price of replacement damper pads, but they seem to be lasting very well so far.
