Wintering

Hi All

As a new caravanner I ma preparing to store my caravan for the winter in our drive at home. I ahve a few questions which you may be abl;e to answer for me. Here goes

1.Should I remove the wheels and if so what should I support the caravan with.

2.What is the general opinion on wintering fluids such as fenwicks.

3.Should I keep the mains lead connected over the winter to keep the battery charged or should I remove it from the van and put it on charge in the shed.

4.How can I minimise damp inside while the van is not being used.

5.What should I do with the water. waste and toilet systems.

We put the van on stands so that the vans weight is off the Alko suspension Rubbers.

With a van stored at home we and the family leave the batteries in our connected vans and tend to sit in them once a week reading the Sundays or planning the nexty caravan trip whilst we run the heater up to give the van an airing.

Lights and switch gear that is used seems to be more reliable rather than left for months untouched.

Our van is polished with Autoglymn the same as the car, that seems to stop to much sticking to the outside.

Pots and sprays for this and that have never been our style, they need storage space and tend to cost more when some good old hot water and washing up liquid will clean most pipes.

Just make sure you drain down the heater, pipes and empty out the toilet and give it all a clean and leave the water tanks open and dry.

We "puriclean" the water pipes and water storage containers before we start the season and then fit a new water filter.

No doubt others have a bottle of "wonder" fluid for every possibility but we find good old soapy water and a hot water wash through and careful use of a power washer does a good job along with leaving the systems empty and dry.
