Wireless connection & internet security

Hi Everyone

Well, my children decided to change me to a wireless connection(only so my daughter can have a computer upstairs)

My question is what are the best security packages?

I have heard that if your wireless you can be hacked into.

What do you use if your wireless?

We've just changed to Kaspersky Version 7 from Mcafee having gone wireless last weekend. PC World reckon they use Kaspersky on their machines and it comes with a 3 computer licence which is useful when you've got kids with laptops etc.

We actually got it from Staples who are doing it for

I'm with BT. How I understand it is there's an inbuilt firewall in the Homehub router. I have Vista and that has it's own firewall. You would just need anti-virus software, something like AVG free........ http://free.grisoft.com/

Hi

You must have some sort of internet security already.

As long as your wireless router has some sort of network key when you set up your wireless connection ie only you can access/connect to the router (internet),no one else can steal your bandwidth if they dont know this key.

Your router should have a built in firewall.

Ok, I'm just looking at what my kids have done. They have changed me from broadband with my (giant mouse)box to a netgear connect with innovation on the box also wireless adsl2+ network starter kit G. But we have a cable from this router box to the back of our computer.

Question are we wireless or have a different box so kids can have computer upstairs at the same time.

We have McAfee, which was free for 12 months when I switched my ISP to Sky, which was also free instead of the 26 quid a month we were paying to Bloody Terrible.

If you havent got a wireless card in your pc you are not wireless and are connected to broadband via the cable to the modem/router,this can be wireless which is how you kids are connecting to it,basically removing the need to connect a cable to each laptop

hi, im with sky its free if you have sky tv. you get a free netgear wireless modem and you get mcafee free for a year. my phone is with sky also its free and you get free weekend calls and free after 6.00pm but like me you can upgrade and for

I'm with BT also and have to agree with Mikey. I have the home hub, which was free, and also the hub phone which was free because I signed up for an 18 month contract. For that they also reduced my monthly payment by

You may well have firewall and anti virus from IP running as well as your own computer antivirus and firewall.

Do not think that will stop problems with either cabled or wireless broadband. Spyware will still bypass those measures, and can cause havoc or slow up your pc.

Get some good Spyware scanning and don't trust that your AV spyware will do the job alone.

If you have youngsters using your system their surfing habits could be a problem.

yes totally agree,get good anti spyware software as well,If you are worried about your young kids surfing use netnanny software this you password protect so only you can allow selected sites to visit plus they will give a usage report at the end of the month.

For security on my wireless router I have 5 keys which should stop the local hacker, each key has a combination of numbers and letters, I also when not on the computer just switch the router off, breaking the connection between the modem and my computer.
