Your reply causes more problems than solves them.
You are talking about two totally different power sources, which you cannot have connected at the same time.
Is your problem with the 240v operation or the 12v operation??????

Does the fridge work on 240v? Or on Gas?

How do you know the fridge is not working from the car,?
The car normally only keeps the fridge cool after being plugged in/ran on gas to get it to temp beforehand.
This means it would take ages for it to cool.
Does the handbook tell you what the symbol's mean.

The problem is the 12vol when I plug it in to the car and have the car started up on the fridge the red light is flashing and the 12volt light is flashing to on fridge

Hello. if your set up is like mine the fridge only operates on twelve volts when the car is connected and the engine is running. That is the only time the red twelve volt light operates.

Hopefully someone with a modern van like yours may comment.

I believe that the car only sends 12 volts when it's own Alternator/Generator is above a certain voltage. By that I mean with the engine running fast enough to produce the correct voltage.

I am guessing that when you are doing your check your car engine is just ticking over which could explain why your fridge light is flashing.
It could be worth just trying again and getting someone to just increase the car revolutions slightly by putting their foot on the throttle. This could increase the voltage supplied and cause the fridge light to become steady.

It could also be that your fridge is designed to show a flashing red light when operating from the cars twelve volt system. But my older fridge the red light doesn't flash when operating.

I do feel that from what you have said that your fridge is working ok.

Remember once you get to site you will connect to mains power anyway or alternatively use the gas function on the fridge if you are on a site with no hookup.

Most people if they store their caravans at home connect their vans to the mains and operate their fridge for a day or so prior to setting off to get it nice and chilled then the twelve volt operation from the car is purely to just keep the fridge chilled during the journey.
I hope you soon get sorted and have a lovely holiday
Best wishes Brian

I know its basic but is the plug wired up for the fridge? The wire for that is optional and will not normally be included in a manufacturers standard kit as other towing jobs do not need it and most independent fitters only fit it if you ask for it. I think it is pin 10 but if I am wrong someone will correct me.
If this might be the problem check the CC advice http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/media/1022790/towbar-wiring-mo.pdf

Er, cars have alternators now so revs makes no difference whatsoever to the output voltage. Once the alternator warning light has gone off the alternator output is essentially fixed at around 14.4V.

Has the OP had a look at the fridge handbook to see what a flashing red light means - or failing that Googled it? As someone has said 12V will keep the fridge cold once it is already cold - from running on mains or gas. If it has not been so done and the first cooling is the result of applying 12V the flashing red may be to indicate that the fridge is not cold?

The implication of the OP is that the 13 pin has just been fitted, so need to establish if the power and earth wires have actually been installed. My guess is not, since car manufacturers do not include these.

As the fridge light is flashing I would guess fridge is picking up the power from the tow vehicle and flashing light again its a guess is the habitation relay cutting in and out due to the tick over on the vehicle.Needs to be a faster tick over .

I've just fitted a digital volt meter into the fridge facial and it cuts in on a fast tickover and off altogether on normal tickover as per Sir Rogers reply. I'll try and upload a photo later on
