Can anyone suggest suitable caravan sites in the area of Ypres as I intend to visit the sites and museums of World War 1.

Hi Norman, I've not been to Ypes yet and the best I can do is to tell you about the site we've booked this August. It's called "Camping la paille haute" and is east of Arras at a place called Boiry Notre-Dame. E-mail, ch.n.choquet@wanadoo.fr

Perhaps it's not quite what you're after but if there's nothing else. They do have a web page but is under construction at the moment.

Norman,

I drive through this region on my commute between the UK and Rotterdam, and you want a camp site near Ieper (Ypres).

Take a look at the ACSI Eurocamp web-site

There are a host of camp sites on the coast between Nieuwpoort and Oostende, but I can't beleive that any of these will be particulary quiet or restful during the holdiay season.

There is Camping Ypra quite near Ieper, Camping Kleinstrand about 10 km South of Brugge, and Camping Memling to the East of Brugge.

I can't give a recommendation - haven't stayed in this area - but aside from the WWI battlefields, it's nice to visit Brugge (Bruges) and other West Vlaanderen villages like Damme, or hop across the Scheldt river (Teurnezen tunnel to the North of Brugge) and visit Middelburg - the capital of Zeeland in the Netherlands.

Robert
