worrying experience?

Just wondered what was your most worrying/frightening experience whilst in your caravan? We sat through some horrendous storms last summer, sitting up ALL NIGHT and constantly re-pegging the awning down due to the gale force winds, not to mention mopping up spilt drinks because the caravan was rocking that much. Or the time when we watched in amazement when what we thought was the awning landed on the front window of the van, only realising when we got outside that it was in fact the pitch next door's tent! Was wondering if anyone else had any frightening experiences they wished to share!

hi ange

we went to dorset, newlands caravan park in october about 4-5 years ago,the weather was horrendous.gale to hurricane force winds.when we arrived it was calm, but ive never experienced anything like it.the caravan was literally lifting off the floor, tree branches were dropping round us like flies, how we were never hit by branches or anything else just beggars belief.it was that bad one day we just got out of the caravan and went out for the day not knowing what we coming back to.and on the nigh we went to the club for a drink, got sozzled, slept all night and hoped for the best, hoping we would not be swept away by the terrible winds.we survied intact and not a mark on the caravan, how i do not know.very choosy when i go away now,any sign of wind and its a no no

Hi Ange. We experienced a violent storm in the Dordogne two years ago. There was a sound like an express train passing around 1 a.m. Then tremendous rain and hail. Our awning dissapeared over the top of the van and one pole stuck through the door. At 2 am the site owner knocked on the door and told us to evacuate immediately. The water from the nearby "brook" was up to the caravan floor, trees were down everywhere and we had to wade across a submerged bridge to get to higher ground. Two hours later everything was back to nomal. Two weeks later it was 51 deg C!
