Would this invalidate warranty?

Hi.
On our previous caravan (Lunar Zenith EB) I added an outdoor ariel co-ax cable from the living room where the tv stands, down under the fixed bed, drilled through the floor and ran the cable along to near the front jockey wheel.
We sometimes found that the roof ariel would not pick up a signal in some areas and had to use the "stand alone"ariel at the front of the van fixed to a long tubular pole.
We encountered the same problem last week at the Forest Of Dean but unfortunatly, didnt have the outdoor ariel with us,so i had to go and buy the ariel, pole and cable to keep "her indoors" happy watching her soaps etc...

We now have the 2009 Bailey Pageant Sancerre and was wondering if I could do the same without invalidating the warranty with Bailey.
Any ideas please?

You can do that without invalidating the warranty.
However, if there is a problem later on which is "Directly Attributable" to the work YOU have done, then that would NOT be covered.
For example, you dril a hole in the floor and drill through a gas or water pipe under the van, that is YOUR responsibility to have fixed.
Another.....some time after you have drilled the floor, you find th efloor in that area is rotten due to water entering YOUR drilled hole, YOU would have to pay for repairs.

I have a Bailey and looking under the seats and under the cooker there are already holes that would be big enough to take ariel cable without the need for making more holes in the floor.

I admit it may take a bit more thought for running the cable in the van to a television point but it shouldnt be too difficult.

Just a thought anyway

Quote "looking under the seats and under the cooker there are already holes that would be big enough to take ariel cable "
The "holes" under seats and cookers, fridges, water heaters are there for a specific reason and of a specific size and should NEVER be obstructed or used as conduits for cables.

It may seem minor, the size of a cable, but it reduces the legally required ventilation and gas drop hole sizes and puts YOUR life in danger.
When in the calculating of these vents, even the size of the anti vermin mesh is taken into consideration.

Thanks for the replies....all taken on board.
I understand what you mean Damien about there may be problems later so I would have to take great care if I decide to do the work.
While we were at the Forest Of Dean,I trailed the ariel cable out through the window, along the inside of the awning and out to the front A frame.
It did the job,but not an ideal solution.
Thanks once again all

If I was buying a second hand caravan and it had a hole drilled through the floor, I woudl probably look elsewhere. Surely the best way to overcome thsi issue woudl be to use a satellite dish which is easier to set up than trying to find a signal from a terrestial mast/

Hi Surfer.
In a way,I would probably agree with you although I would check first to make sure the job was done properly.
As Damien said,if not done properly, there may be issues later on.
Good idea about the satellite dish though....worth thinking about maybe.

I really do not understand this at all.
A brand new van has lots of holes drilled in the floor.........and a lot of them are not sealed from underneath!
Providing the underside is sealed there is no problem

As an aside from the OP should we apply regular underseal to the caravan floor eg waxoyl or whatever? I've never done this before but with all the winter touring we now do I just wondered?

The "easier" part might depend on the site you are on. I've went down the satellite path over the last year or two and sometimes found difficulty in getting a clear line of direction to the satellite due to trees. Still leaves you with the problem of routing the coax cable into the van whether it be external terrestial or satellite.
Agree that satellite is the way to go.

In reply to Dustydog, no, there is no need to do anything with the underside of the van.
The underside is pre treated and many vans also have a waterproof membrane stuck to the underside.
