XC90 Towing mirrors

I bought some standard towing mirrors for our XC90 over Easter - the type that has a rubber belt going around the back of the mirror (I guess most are like that), and found them to be absolute rubbish.

If the door was ever opened and shut, immediately my view would disappear and they would have to be re-adjusted (Perhaps they could be tightened up). Worse than that though, they just vibrated the whole time. I found them a real hindrance as the vibration made vision almost nil, and used the normal mirrors on the jeep. I am used to towing, as I was brought up on a farm, but the tractors had decent mirrors that stuck out a fair way from the main body, and therefore did not need any additional mirrors to be stuck onto them - as with HGVs.

Surely every type of towing mirror that attaches to the jeep mirror is going to suffer from the same problems of vibration. I remember my father used to use the old sort which had a big tubular frame which pressed onto the front doors, using bungee cord to hold them tight. I am sure they did not vibrate.

Do I need to return to that sort, or can anyone help me out please?

Have a look at the latest Milenco Grand Aero Towing Mirrors. We've just bought some for our Freelander 2. They're really designed well. The glass is quite large, unlike the 'teardrop' shaped ones. Only thing we did wrong was to choose flat glass, when we needed convex, for a bigger field of view and we're in the process of exchanging them for convex ones.

We tow with an XC V70 AWD and purchased our towing mirrows direct from the Volvo Agent. Quite expensive but they are excellent and we have had the same ones in use for over 6 years now!
