We were away with the caravan in July when my husband fell and broke his wrist. The site warden was wonderful and the people on site were very kind. You always wonder if when you need help will it be there for you. Ours was perfect agreeing to return our vehicle and caravan to our home. The recovery vehicle arrived on time, but the lady owner of the vehicle said that they did not allow dogs in the cab our dog would have to go on his own in the car on the back of the recovery vehicle health and safety and all that. After some discussion she did relent and we got home with no problem. It has took us over one and a half years to get our dog in the car without him slavering in distress so can you imagine what he would be like had we not been able to have him with us.We were not aware of this health and safety issue so thought that other caravanners should be aware too.PS My husband has just got the pot off.

I think the Health & Safety point is a bit of a nonsence. I may be wrong but nothing springs to mind about having a dog in a Truck Cab as far as I can recall.

However, I do think the RSPCA could have had something to say about a dog being left in distress, unsupervised in a car on the back of a recovery vehicle.

Glad you got back OK

I broke my wrist on Bodmin Moor last November - slipped of a rock in high winds on the "Cheese ring".

Typing is very good physiotherapy I was told and it seems to have worked. So get hubby to start conversing with the rest of us nutters on here!!

This subject has cropped up at various times, and as I recall, it is the drivers "choice" as to whether he or she wants to carry dogs in the cab of their recovery vehicle, nothing at al to do with H&S, which was probably said to avoid saying,I dont want your dog in my cab!!

Green Flag have said that if the situation happens that the recovery driver will not take dogs in the cab, they will, on receipt of a phone call stating what the problem is, try and find a more accomodating driver, but your recovery will be delayed, naturally.

A couple of years ago I broke down with my two dogs in the car. The RAC sent a breakdown vehicle from a local garage, and when it arrived, the driver said he couldn't let my dogs in the cab of the breakdown truck as if they left hairs on the seat which later got onto someone's clothes, he could be sued for the cleaning costs.

As my dogs were perfectly happy in the car, I left them in there with some water and food for the four hour trip home.

~Then I climbed into the truck, and discovered that the floor, seats, dashboard, headlining - even the windows - were covered in grease.

Needless to say, after a heated but pointless complaint to the RAC, I joined Green FLag!!!
