my wife and i are a touch older, i am 30 and she is 28, we take our little pooch too.

the average age of this wonderful passtime is lowering, and rightly so. we have been caravanning for about a year.

may i wish you both many more happy years of vanning.

We started caravanning 24 years ago and now I'm coming upto 47.

Never looked back and enjoy every minuit of it. We too have a couple of Labradors who can't wait to go in the van.

Started in a mid 60's 10 foot sprite, now got a van twice the size and having just as much fun.

Happy vanning.

There is a misconception that caravanning is strictly for a certain age group and those vibes are mainly from younger people. Ive lost count of how many times Ive had to "educate" some on this point. I was 29 when I got my first caravan and would have had one earlier if my finances had been better. I am now just about licking 50 and still marvel at some of the older vanners doing the rounds and the stories they can tell. ENJOY.

Hey you are not alone being young and caravanning - my husband is 33 and I'm 31 and we bought our caravan this year, so we can enjoy family holidays with my 17 month old daughter. We have many friends who laugh at us being young and owning a caravan but we just see it as we're the ones away at weekends having fun, a change from the norm..! Happy Caravanning..x

We are in our fifties and prefer the company of the younger generation as they do not complain as much as some of the older generation. Unfortunately, not all but some of the older generation seem to think that they can dictate to all and sundry what caravanning should be instead of offering advice.

Hi Richard,

I am 31 and my husband is 28, this is our fifth year caravanning. We do sometimes get the mickey taken too, but we always have the last laugh as we're on holiday far more than anyone else we know, not to mention countless weekends away as well

Enjoy!!

I am 30 and my wife is 27 (and we have a 5 month old son), and although we haven't yet got our own van, my wife did go 'vanning as a child, but I haven't.

It is a shame there are so many clarkson-esque "caravanning is so boring" types. Well they can stick it where the sun don't shine.

Each to their own, well exactly so they should mind their own business.

As some previous posters have said, it seems the majority of younger carvanners have children, that is one of the reasons I want to start as I think it is a better holiday for families than staying in a hotel.

There ... my 2p's worth.

we are a tad older - 33 and 36 and 7 year old german shepherd.

We dont feel out of place at all on site....seen all different ages. I do think caravanner's are starting younger these days though.

Exactly our reason. A hotel didn't work for us at the start of the summer with our daughter. In the caravan though, we just pull close the door at one end of the caravan and that is her effectively in her own room. We have had some great family time so far and highly recommend to other people with young families.

I am 63 and started caravanning at 20
We brought our van a few months ago (I am 28 with a 2 year old daughter) We have enjoyed our holidays abroad and in fact went to Majorca this June with our little girl, however soon found that waiting around at airports, sitting cramped up for 3 hours on a plane, waiting again at airports for luggage, then travelling again on a coach is not much fun with a toddler. Also it is not the relaxing time lying by the pool sipping cocktails that is used to be when it was just the 2 of us. Our daughter was also poorly when we were away and didn't eat for 4 days which was a worry and we had to call the doctor out which cost us 75 euros (which we haven;t got back as the insurance excess was 50 pounds) not that we minded paying but if we were in the UK we could have just come home and gone to see our GP All of this and it cost nearly 1500 pounds for a week with spending money! In contrast we have just spent a week in Somerset, surrounded by our own things, able to please ourselves and visted some lovely places, our daughter was just as happy on the beach there, the only thing we never had was the weather but still prefered it to the week abroad. So even though we are young we feel this is going to give us so much more freedom and enjoyment.

We started in a trailer tent eight years ago and changed to a caravan 5 years ago - I'm 37 and hubby is 39. Our son was born in 2003 and has been caravanning with us since he was eight weeks old.

Richard my husband and i started off in our mid twenties with a 2 man tent and a springer spaniel now we have 2 kids and a Bailey. I cant remember which tv programme it was but apparently it is now 'cool' to caravan and i have to say i have noticed more and more young families caravanning it is now open to everyone though i think the tips and advice we get from the 'seasoned' vanners cannot be beaten. We tried winter vanning at the beginning of this year in Dumfries and were snowed in what a great time we had all cozy and warm and plenty of food!!

My wife & I are both 28, and started vanning last year. we too, were looking for people our own age group and we found them at the young caravan club.

Dont wanna plug it to much, but it is great. We have meets at least once a month now, and it is free to join.

Most caravan web sites and magazines seemed to be aimed at the slightly older caravan users, which is understandable cos theres more of them.
