Any recommendations gratefully received..

Looking for a new tow car. The caravan weighs 1400kg and we need an estate as we have a dog.

We have been looking at Rover 75 estates (the 2.0 CDTi diesel version) - they seem well equipped, good value for money and have had some very good reviews.

Would welcome peoples experiences of the Rover, including fuel consumptions as well as suggestions of other suitable estates.

Hi

I have the MG version of the 75 and it makes a great tow car. Loads of room and the deisel (i tested one) has loads of power. Would be a good choice with the 1600kg tow limit and 100kg nose weight capacity

I am currently using a Honda Accord Tourer 2.2 i.CTDI. I have had the car since April using it primarily for business but also about 4000 miles towing. Listed kerbweight is 1562kg, but at the local weighbridge the car came in at 1645kg with a tank of fuel. Max tow is 1500kg, I have been towing 1420/1440 kg. The car is extremely comfortable and refined with the power and torque well suited to towing. Fuel economy is around 45/50 solo and around 26/30 towing while towing we also carry a couple of bikes on the roof of the car which will no doubt have an effect on the mpg. Previously I have towed with a Freelander TD4 & Mondeo TDCi, both impressive tow vehicles but in my opinion the Accord beats them both. Richard S

How about a Saab 9-5 estate 3.0 V6 Diesel. Very powerful, weight is about 1740kgs, and very reliable as it's a Saab. Other than that the obviuos one is a Volvo V70 D5 Diesel, but they arn't as heavy as the Saab.
