Well I have just come back from a fellow caravaner and they told us newbies that it would be a good idea to join a caravan club.

But what club do we join ?

As we are very very new to this game, first time will be in 4 weeks time away, so I will list the things that we would like or not like on sites.

1 Electric hook up, as I have not fathomed out how to light the gas fire yet.

2 No entertainment as we are over 60+.

3 May be a shop for milk bread.

4 Fairly reasonable price range.

5 OKay no children, well I suppose I could live with youngsters as I play a mean game of rounders

6 Not to far from a sea side.

7 No sport, fishing,golf.

8 No drunks.

Now how would joining a club help me, and what club ?

Please do not take a fence on any of my likes and dislikes as I'm just getting old and miserable.

Well we belong to the Caravan Club and have done for 40 years with a short break in the middle. It has always been an advantage to us. We find that our views are very similar to your. When we were younger we used the Club sites but now only use the CL's with just 5 vans on them. Not many families use them so few chilren and quite a few are Adults only these days. Most have electric some toilets and showers and are generally very friendly owners.Prices from

That's good idea your Lordship, we have done that and may well stay in both even though we have a strong leaning to the CC.

That's not saying the C&CC is poor quiet the opposite but we feel the CC is little more manicured + there are little more hard standings on the CC, one thing in favour of the C&CC is you can usually get on the sites for late bookings due to the deposit system.

I have been asked this question several times and I usually advise people to try out both clubs by staying on their sites. Both club's accept non-members at some of their sites. You usually pay a bit more than members but you can try before you buy so to speak. I think we are lucky in this country to have 2 really good clubs and I find it useful to be a member of both clubs. Although I feel the CC magazine is better than the C&CC.

Join both clubs and then make up your mind after a year. I dislike the one club with a passion due to the attitude of the wardens, but we are very happy with the other.

We belong to both mainly because we have a 17 and 15 year old boys. When doing a price comparison to stay in the same area but on the diffrent clubs' sites there was no differnece in price - the C&C club includes children up to 18 but has diffrent seasons to the C club so it was actually chepaer to stay at the C club even though we were paying for 3 adults. The bottom line is do your sums!

Ian.

How can you dilike a club because of the attitude of the wardens, unless you have met all of thenm of course?

What exactly is your problem with these wardens anyway.

Looking at your like and dislikes then I would join the Caravan Club. You will get a book of sites and then you can choose the ones that appeal to you.

Caravan and Camping Club sites also allow tents so often you manage to get more children and teenagers on site.

All wardens have bad day, we've experienced that on both sites but don't tie all to the same brush, nobody worse than me when MUFC lose or miss a 9" put like what happened Saturday.

Also have a look at some of the excellent sites at The best of British caravan parks. You'll be pleasantly surprised at the quality and prices.

No need whatsoever to join ANY club, although i am a CC member its only because i got a discount on my insurance, maybe i would have got the discount if i wasn't a member not sure.

I have not used a CC or C&cc site for years too expensive, too many rules.

Plenty of commercial sites, and lots of sites books you can buy, or just google.

The only advantage for a newbie say joining the CC is you get all the site books, so if you really feel the need join for one year.

We are similar in SOME respects to you, and find adult only to our taste.

Reg and Pat may like to join one of the clubs to enable them to use the 5 van CL sites. These are only for members so could add to the list of advantages along with the discounted caravan insurance and breakdown insurance.

Hi Reg and pat

I am pleased to see someone honest about thier idea of a good time, there are plenty of people excusing anti social behaviour and sneering at anyone who dosent claim to enjoy other peoples kids, dogs, loud music etc. We are with you. I think the Caravan Club sites would mostly suit you but even they are not always immune to some of the above. If you are thinking of travelling further afield losts of French sites would suit you particularly out of season and some Spanish are fine except at weekends and holidays and then its time to get the earplugs out.

That will be 2 lots of members then, dont forget to have a field each as if not you might upset one another and that would simply ruin your day.

I could ramble on about my dislike of the C & CC which quite valid having come across it on 3 different sites but I won't except to say I forgave the first two however on the last site the warden was really obnoxious and that was the final straw.

Total waste of our money with the unfriendly club as we never used any of the sites again and wasted nine months. Nothing against the people that belong to the club as they are friendly it is just the organisation I am having a pop at.

Hi Reg & Pat

There is some good advice in the replies to your original question.

We are members of the Camping & Caravanning Club.

We don't go away in our caravan to be best friends with site wardens, our experience is that they have been helpful, friendly and professional and the sites that we have visited would live up to your requirements.

The C&CC runs over 4000 sites in the UK so three negative experiences with wardens would not be enough to condemn any club as 'unfriendly' and I would stress that this has not been our experience over the past ten years.

Both clubs offer exactly what you are seeking, I'm not a member of the CC but apart from well documented problems with advance booking the members of the CC appear to be happy to remain so if forum posts are anything to go by. You could try both clubs by staying on their sites before you commit to joining either.

Many C&CC sites offer electric hook ups, showers, toilets and laundry facilities because they are shared by campers in tents who are normally in their own dedicated area.

The Camping &Caravanning Club operates a strict no noise policy, no blaring radios or tv's are allowed and no vehicle movements after 11pm so anyone who decided to ignore this might discover that the C&CC wardens were less than friendly.

The Camping &Caravanning Club offers good discounts for members who are over 55 and also a four nights for the price of three or seven nights for the price of five price reduction on many of it's sites throughout the year.

Hope this helps
