does any body know how the warning light on dash panel (small towbar icon) works on a 03 zafira .I have fitted correct loom etc from vx but they dont know how it works either

I have tried removing bulb on trailer board but it just increases blinker speed on dash (probably a good enough warning as it is) any ideas ??

Hi

All late model Vauxhalls fitted with a Vauxhall

wiring kit need to have the management system set up by a Dealer. This is so the electronics are set to recognise when a trailer is attached and actuate the warning lamp on the dash. It took ages to get this information last year... most Dealers don't have a clue as they leave towbars to specialist firms and many of them don't know either!!! There is a good website under Ryder towing.

Graham, The lamp is operated via a ground (-) on pin 2 of the caravan 12S plug. Pin 2 should be connected in the caravan to either pin 3 or pin 7 which are the car battery (-).

Assuming the car has got a bulb in the warning circuit, and the wiring from the car 12S socket pin 2 is connected to the other side of the lamp then it should come on when the 12S plug is connected.

This warning lamp system was part of the European harmanisation that came about with the change of car / van 12S wiring in 1998. The lamp seems a waste of time, most caravanners know when the van is attached and don't need a lamp to tell them.
