    Automatic only cars

My non-DSG 2005 auto diesel also has the 'problem' of delay when putting your foot down after coasting to a near-stop. I don't believe it is a design or manufacturing fault - the gearbox does not have physic abilities and it cannot see the gap you are trying to get into. So it is about to change...

    Mobile Sat Nav in France

Google satnav is OK - it will always have the most up-to-date maps and you can search by anything (postcode, names of landmarks etc) but is doesn't have useful tools like ETAs, storing favourites, setting your home address etc. Most importantly, as JonnyG says, it is dependent on your phone...

    Ferry Prices

I think you're trying to justify your costs there: - £250 for the ferry?! I'm paying £80 going at peak times in August. - Overnight stops at £50 pn?!! I think you'd have to be trying very hard to find a site costing that much . French municipal sites are normally £10-£20 pn max. - Tolls...

Moan & Groan - Ford Mondeo 2.0L diesel automatic

My 2005 Santa Fe does the same thing. I can't imagine it's a manufacturing or design fault - as someone else said, as you're slowing down, the car can not anticipate whether you plan to stop or go, so it gets stuck for a second in no-mans land. The only way round it is to stay in manual mode...

    sat nav

The theory is, if it gets nicked while you're on holiday, the thieves can happily go and burgle your house, knowing you won't be coming back to interrup them. Personally, I think the advantage of having 'Home' set outweighs the small risk of this happening but anyway... You don't lock your...

Beware Suzuki SWB & Renault Laguna manufacturer's towing limits.

Maybe but with a kerbweight of only 1245 kg, you'd be mad to tow any caravan near that limit. Is it a 1.6 petrol engine? I wouldn't be surprised if the max tow was only 450kg - it must have a hard time pulling itself round with that size engine

    Find your ferry !

That's genius!! When it finally refreshes, shows over 3,000 vessels in the Channel alone!! Hope the Somali pirates don't get hold of that site...

    sat nav

I can't understand why everyone worries about having the most up-to-date maps. My current sat-nav software is 2 years old and I bought an old version at the time (for my Nokia, £10 off eBay). Before that, I had v5 of TomTom (from 2002?) on an old Compaq iPaq. On the rare occassion I come...

    sat nav

Problem with that is you need to have a phone signal - get to an area of bad or no signal (like round most campsites ) and you've lost your navigation abilities. My satnav is on my Nokia but installed locally, so can be used anywhere, regardless of phone signal.

    sites in the vendee?

Difficult to answer because there are SO many sites in that area. We went to Le Pin last year and are going to La Garangeoire this year - pretty similar sites in the same area but both miles from any town. There are loads of sites on the coast that are walking distance to a town centre and...

Thinking of going to France for the first time advice of lowering cost.

What does that £1000 include? We went to the Vendee for 2 weeks (family of 4 with our caravan) and spent £1,300 in total, including food, petrol, tolls, site fees etc. I booked it all direct without using any clubs, companies etc. The biggest saving is by crossing the Channel through Dover or...

    New Ford S max

I only notice it very occassionally and then only when solo when you see that gap in the traffic you just 'have' to get into. When towing, that situation never arises because everything is so much slower. The other advantages of an automatic far outweigh this minor issue.

Hel needed for La Rochelle/Royan area

If the mods don't mind me advertising another forum , try http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk and especially the 'site search' option (top-left of the page). This allows you to select a point on a map, select some options down the side and then displays all matching sites within a certain radius of...

    tv for caravan

It's so NOT free...do a search for the TV you're interested in and you'll find it cheaper than the John Lewis one - and by about the same amount as a 5 year guarantee!! And, no they won't price-match because they say that the other one doesn't include the guarantee! Of all the TVs I've had...
