    mercedes e class

We been towing for about 15 months with an E class auto estate, though not the 270 version. Our 320 tows a 1400Kg Lunar with ease, and the auto makes driving so easy, especially in poor traffic, eg the M25!! A trip to the South of France and back last summer averaged 23 mpg when towing.

    towing a Lunar Lexon EB

We towed our Lexon EB with an auto V70 D5. Easy to tow, effortless cruising (especially with cruise control) and not bad mpg. About 26 mpg towing and 45 mpg solo on the M-way, 35 mpg on the daily commute. Very comfortable and capacious vehicle, and it never let us down. Very poor turning circle.

    Mercedes E 220 CDI

We now use an 08 320CDI E class estate to tow our Lunar Lexon EB (soon to be a Lunar Clubman SE) and find the car tows brilliantly. 7 auto gears pose no problem and it cruises down M-ways and autoroutes effortlessly, and inclines or hills are dealt with easily. It only does about 24 mpg towing...

    volvo v70

Hi, We used to tow a Lunar Lexon with a '53 V70 D5 auto. Never had any mechanical problems with the car and it towed the 'van (1400kg) with ease. Used it regularly to go to the South of France, two adults and the usual caravan gear. We were very happy if we averaged 26 mpg towing, solo the...

Audi A4, Volvo V70, Mercedes C220, VW Passat all automatic

We towed a Lunar Lexon for almost 5 years with a 53 V70 auto, the 165 bhp model. Towing with an auto was a breeze and it returned about 25 mpg towing and up to 40 mpg solo. As mentioned previously, it has the turning circle of an oil tanker, which can be a pain when parking in tight spaces...

    Towbar fitter recommendation please.

We will have to have to have a tow bar fitted to our new tow car (E Class Estate) but the company that fitted our other tow bars is no longer in business. We llive in St Helens, Merseyside, and wondered if anyone could recommend a towbar fitter in the Merseyside/Greater Manchester/Lancashire/...

    Camp site near Dublin recommendation

We are visiting Southern Ireland for the first time this Easter. We would like recommendations for Camp sites close to Dublin that can be used for one night when we arrive and for several nights at the end of our trip. We need to be close to Dublin as our return Ferry is 08.20! We are...

    automatic or manual

We changed to an auto 2 cars ago when we swapped our Rialto-Passat unit for a V70 D5 auto-Lunar Lexon combo. Best move we ever made, effortless driving with or without the caravan, especially when stuck in traffic on the M6 or M1. Auto comes into its own with cruise control, just set the speed...

    Tom Tom or Garmin

Don't buy the sat nav that comes fitted to a new car unless you know what it is capable of. We've just bought a nearly new E Class and it had the COMAND unit (Sat Nav, CD/DVD etc) already in. It is very poor compared to my Tom Tom One Europe - which has worked very well in the UK and in...

    E Class towbar

We've just changed the V70 D5 for an E Class Merc (320 CDI) Estate. The factory fit towbar is a swivel jobbie, but costs in excess of £600 - too late now anyway on a used car! Has anyone had a detachable fitted that does not cut into the bumper or has a cover plate when the towbar is removed?

    Car or Leisure battery?

I understand the differences between the construction and applications of both types of battery, but was wondering if a car battery would be better if its 'only' use was to power a mover on a Lexon EB? We always use sites with mains hook up and the only time the battery is used is for the...

    Increasing the MPTLW

Thanks for all the replies so far, I'll see what Lunar say once I've sorted out the delamination problem with them - that will be another story!

    Increasing the MPTLW

I read in another thread that someone had asked their caravan manufacturer to increase the MPTLW of their 'van. Is this possible for all makes? It would be useful to counteract the fitting of the mover to our Lunar Lexon. Regards, Tillman

    FWD or RWD ?

I'm OK with RWD vs FWD for 'normal' use, it's the traction aspect when towing a caravan I was enquiriing about, particularly when pulling on a wet, grassy pitch. From the comments so far, it would seem that RWD has the edge over FWD, under these circumstances. Cheers, Tillman

    FWD or RWD ?

I have only ever used FWD cars for towing - a manual VW Passat and an auto Volvo V70 - both have been fine on the road, but I've had a problem or two pulling the caravan (Lexon EB) of a wet pitch. The front wheels spin. With the Volvo this can be reduced by selecting winter mode. The only RWD...
