Just bought a Mercedes E270 deisel/auto

Anyone had any experience towing with this car.I will be towing a Sterling Emerald 1205kg

A chap up the road tows an 1800kg caravan with the same car, so 1205kg should be a piece of cake.

Your main problem will be remembering you have a caravan hitched up. I guess it will be the 5 cylinder 270 engine as used in earlier ML Class 4x4 one of which i had for 8 years until recently pulling 1500kg van with absolutely no problems apart from not particularly good mpg. If the car has been used for towing before it may be worth getting the auto gearbox fluid changed at the next service - they are allegedly sealed for life, but there is some history of problems with the box on the MLs at about 70,000 miles.

We been towing for about 15 months with an E class auto estate, though not the 270 version. Our 320 tows a 1400Kg Lunar with ease, and the auto makes driving so easy, especially in poor traffic, eg the M25!!

A trip to the South of France and back last summer averaged 23 mpg when towing.
