13 pin plug.

Would like to convert my caravan to the newer style 13 pin plug for the electrics. Has anyone done this, and is it straightforward? Thanks

Gary

Well worth doing this. I purchased the cable and plug from my dealer. I removed the plugs from the two cables and used a strip connector to connect the various wires. I smeared the screws in vaseline and tie-wrapped everything to the chassis. I didn't shorten any cables in case I, or someone else, should find the need to replace the 12N & 12S plugs.

Hi,

I'm not quite sure which 'plug' you are referring to. Do you mean the sockets inside the van, the one in the van wall for supplying to the awning or do you mean teh 16amp supply into the van?

Ignore my comments misread your question!!!!!

Thanks Malcolm,

That sounds a good way of doing it. I have the adaptor cable, I can use that and make a permanent job.

Hi Gary,

One thing I should have mentioned - the 13 core cable being so much thicker than the 7 core means it is not so flexible. Also, the 13 pin plug doesn't fit the moulded housing in my Bailey's A-frame cover so I clip it to the Alko handle using a bungee.

Hi Gary - I've converted my 1998 Abbey to a continental style 13 plug to suit the socket on my Bora. I made a careful note of the original wire colours and where they were connected to inside the front of the caravan, from the van instruction book I was able to identify their function. You then need the C C leaflet to identify the correct wires in the 13 core cable, but note that around 1998/1999 there was a small change in the wiring set-up, so check out your van carefully. When wiring the new plug to the cable be meticulous with the length of wire stripped and take your time - it is a rather fiddly job but not impossible! Good luck.
