1992 Sprite Super Musketeer 2 Awning Rail Screws Removal

Hi,

I am planning to remove and re seal the awning rails from my 1992 caravan in a couple of weeks and thought it would be a good idea to get some advice on the one aspect that has got me worried, removal of old rusty screws!!

Yesterday I removed a small section of the protective plastic strip to expose about half a dozen screws and every one looked pretty badly corroded and expect the rest to be in a similar condition. Is there a recommended method to remove rusty screws without damaging the rail?

All advice is much appreciated.

simple use pliers and grip what is left of head and a good wigggle while pulling replace with stainless steal screws, also to reinsert trim warm trim with a hair dryer, this will help.

Drill the heads off any screws that wont come out, then when the rail is back in position drill all new holes close to the original ones and use stainless screws.
