Anyone out there have a 1999 FORD GALAXY 1.9 TD 110PS?

I am interested in the gross vehicle weight, as I need this combined with a van to be less than the 3500 limit for the post 1997 license issue.

Having 3 kids I think this would suit us better than a mondeo, simply because of the room.

The MAX GROSS vehicle weight is 2350kg - 2420kg (fully loaded).

The KERB WEIGHT is 1725kg - 1820kg (tank of fuel + driver).

The max tow weight is 1500kg

The max towball weight is 85kg.

Specs are from the manual for my 1999 TDi90 Galaxy.

Thanks very much for the replies.

It looks as though that will have me kippered on the 3500 regulation again!

If the MAX GROSS vehicle weight is 2350kg - 2420kg that only leaves me 1000kg. Don't think I will find many 5 berth vans that will fall into that weight..... pff!

If you take the heaviest kerbweight (1820kgs) add 75 kgs for each passenger and say 50 kg for other bits and bobs that adds upto 2170kg with driver and 4 passengers so you`d be looking at a van with max weight of around 1250kg.

Mark, the B & E section of your licence are not that hard to get, why don't you try then you will have no further problems.

A friends son recently passed the B & E and said it was easy and fun, he is just 18 years old and passed it to tow mini diggers behind a nissan pickup.

If you were to get stopped by the boys in blue, do they take you to a weigh bridge, or go by the plates that are on both the vehicle and caravan?

As I think, that a Galaxy and a van with 2 adults and 3 young children (and the associated clobber) will come in just under the 3500kg limit.

However if the base it on the plates, stamped on the car and van, that would be very tight!

Thanks for the reply Lutz.

I think I may just get away with it if I have a Galaxy MAX GROSS vehicle weight is 2350kg - 2420kg and a BAILEY Beachcomber Club 470/4 ex-works weight of this van is only 785kg and has a max weight of 1054kg.

Looking at the maximum's that gives me 3474kg .... not much room for anything else!

This would be ok for us this season to see how we get on, we can sort the B+E test out at our leisure then.

You've got a bigger margin than you think you have, Mark_sat. The max. gross of the Galaxy (2350kg) includes the noseweight but the max. total weight of the caravan (1054kg) also includes noseweight. So, you're counting noseweight twice. Therefore, subtract the noseweight from the 1054kg and you've got the axle load of the caravan, which is your towload. The towload plus the GVW of the car is the total train weight, NOT GVW of the car + MTPLM of the caravan.
