I am new to Caravanning but I have come across what seems to be a nice 2000 Herald Emblem 490/L in great condition for £5800 along with a new motor mover. However i have never heard of this model and can't find anything on the internet. I was wondering if you could tell me anything about them good or bad and any recommendation as i expect to keep it for a while. also do you think its worth the money

Thanks

Tony

I can't comment on the Emblem but we had a 2000 Herald Clarion 420L. I was a lovely van, spacious, light. The only problem we had initially was that the fire front used to come loose while travelling but that eventually got sorted. We part ex'd it for a fixed bed last year and it was sold the day after the dealer took it. I think that price seems ok but I'm not an expert.

Anthony, I had a 2000 Herald Magnum 490/5 which is from the same family as yours and was supplied as a dealer special from Mendip Caravans.

The Heralds were from the Explorer Group and it is actually a Compass Omega, rebadged as Herald and sold as dealer specials with extras e.g. external gas point. Spares etc are therefore easy to get hold off - well no worse than other 7 year old Explorer group spares.

I had it for 5 years and except for serviceing never spent any money on it, everything worked and nothing went wrong. I part exchanged it in 2006 and received basically what you are paying. The dealer put it up for sale as "One owner - immaculate condition" [the van not me the owner!]. It sold for
