Hi all

Anyone out there towing with the new honda crv, I have a twin axle van,A sterling europa 620,I know i am not far away from 100% weight but will this car be up to the job.

I looked at this car to replace my xtrail. However ater a visit to the What car owners feedback forum the car appears to have too many issues for my liking.

Personally i wouldn't tow your van with near 100%. But its your safety choice.
 
I've had one of these for about 18 month's now, and, as I've said before on here, I have had no real issues - although I have seen some of the Whatcar feedback. It tows my van fine, but I would not to take it up to 100%.

I am a mechanical Engineer, time served on Diesel engines, I own the latest Honda CRV 2.2 and can say the vehicle as very little issues that concern me. Other than a very slight squeeck from the clutch pedal when depressed all is fine.

The CRV maynot have an high BHP at 140 but impressive low rpm torque that allows good towing performance on my 1300kg Coachman.

Not sure how safe any vehicle would be at 100% but the Honda does have trailer stability assist as standard and most people on this forum forget to mention this.

All I can say is most vehicles have some problems/issues but with Honda you are just nit picking, the Renault engined Nissans including X trails have major issues with Turbo failures and a host of problems reported on some forums and known in the trade.

Anything with a Honda badge is usually the best you can get for your money, from Lawn mowers, portable generaters, motor bikes to cars, wish they made a caravans.

Hello Alan. I was interested in your post - especially as you mention the TSA on the CR-V. When I had my tow gear fitted ( Witter detachable), I could not get an answer from,Honda, Witter or the Honda Dealer as to whether the TSA is fully operable with anything other than the 'official' Honda ( Bosal?) tow bar and electrics. The fitter said that he had fitted both to the CR-V, and that he 'used all the same connections' whichever he used. In the end the Dealer told me that it would all work, except the brake lights would not work in conjunction with the TSA.(That is a small point and has never concerned me) I was never completely convinced by the Dealer's answer, and I wonder if you knew anything about this?

Please be assured that i am not having a go at your Honda, although i was taken aback by the number of unhappy owners on the Whatcar forum.

I was rather surprised to see the few complaints about the latest xtrail, given that it is now a renault engine.

I must point out however that the first xtrail was fitted with a Nissan engine, source Diesel car mag.

Further being picky i known, your diesel engine BHP is 138.

The 140 is hp, or the ps rating.
 
Perception is everything, if you buy a Honda you expect it to work perfectly and will complian about the slightest thing, If you buy a Ford you expect bits to fall of and are not overly dismayed when they do (up to a point!!!)
 
I'm looking for a non urgent replacement for my Mazda 6 tug, but was put off with the Hondas "no Spare" What are you supposed to do if you get a flat towing ?
 
The CR-v certainly has a steel spare wheel and when I bought a 2005 Honda Accord I told them that I would not take it without a spare wheel. They supplied a spare wheel AND left the puncture repair stuff in the boot.

First off all the new Honda CRV does have a full size steel spare.

If you check their website it does discribe the stability assist but being Honda they dont ram it home quite so well but it is fitted as standard on all models. I think it works by detection of lateral movement excerted on the tow ball and compensates through the braking of individual wheels and power reduction, however its not my area of expertice so I am not 100% sure.

Would not consider saving
 
My 2007 new shape Honda CRV only has a space saver spare wheel which must NOT be used when towing. You can order a cost option full sized spare but it will not fit in the spare wheel well!!!

your right my new shape crv has only got a space saving steel wheel as well very interesting
 
That's better than the new Nissan XT which has a full size spare but on 16in steel rim (alloy is 17in)that is not for towing

Nissan do not have a 17in steel rim available and want a lot for an alloy spare

Its a total humbug to have the room and supply an inferior product at the price of the vehicle

The Nissan dealer also had a Witter towbar fitted to my XT and I was very happy to have a local product(Chester 25 miles)

I have had Witter before and Towsure with no problems
