Happy new year to one and all and hope you all have a great 2016 season.

We only took the plunge in August 2015, but loving the convenience of getting away and having our own space, a 686 is a little bigger than we really need for 2, but we love the layout and space .....

I had hoped to escape in the MH for new year, but the Mrs was not well, so we stayed put, have itchy feet and rearing to get away soonest, hope to see you out there.

Having snatched my January issue of the magazine, I am now tasked with getting away to NZ, plus we are planning to be in France for 3 weeks in the summer too.

Plus the MHM had a feature on campsite in Dordogne which is our destination for summer ! .....

My wife has commented on how friendly people are ... and she is so right of course

Happy New Year to you too Colin, and I hope your good lady is much better.
You're not taking your own van out to NZ are you? Hiring is supposed to be the way to go over there.
France, on the other hand, has been called "motorhome heaven," and is well worth the cost of the ferry or tunnel.
French law allows you to park overnight anywhere a car can, none of the "no sleeping or cooking" signs you see around the UK, and the network of Aires means you can spend your money on things you enjoy, rather than on renting bits of grass. Have a great 2016 - Liz & I certainly intend to!

(BtW, I've deleted your duplicate thread - hope that's ok).

When you get to France, you would do better to get the Camping Cars aires book. Loads of sites in them. Get them from Supermarkets usually

Paul's right on that - they're in French, but it's quite easy for someone with very limited French to get the hang of them, and they have more entries than the English book.
There are two, produced by the two main French magazines (Camping-Car, and Le Monde du Camping-car). As Paul says, I think the CC one is most useful. It calls itself (not sure why) "Le Guide Officiel des Aires de Service Camping-Car" and you'll find it at most bookshops ("Librairie") and newsagents ("Maison de la Presse") once you get there, as well as in the big supermarkets.

Ok thanks, will do that !

My wife is on the mend, though looking after elderly parents with dementia is v challenging.

She is beginning to see the merits of the MH more and more especially when we have some nice weather like this weekend !

We found a lovely site near her parents, Somers wood @ Meriden so we tend to stay there if we go together, another great bonus of the MH !

V much enjoy the magazine and the website !

Hi Colin,
I'm glad all is going well and that your wife is recovering. Somers Wood is in our Top 100 Sites Guide 2015, so we're glad you like it too. The campsites in that guide were all voted for by readers and if you want to try out some of the others you can download a free copy here: http://bit.ly/1JDXl7s.

Good luck with all your tours.
