21's Only Served!

Hi everyone

I have just ridden through a nearby village and seen a sign outside stating that nobody under the age of 21 is welcome as they will not be servec. Is this a first?

I think yuo wil find that most, if not all, the major supermarkets have a sign saying 21. however, it further states, in very small print, usually on another notice near Customer Services, that "anyone who is fortunate enough to look under21 years of age may be asked for I.D when purchasing cigarettes, drink and certain other items".

As shopkeepers can and do get prosecuted for selling to under age people, be it for cigarettes or drink, these notices just reinforce the fact that a shopkeeper can deny service to anyone they want to.

Our local town has a sign that by order of the Local Chief Constable nobody under the age of 21 will be sold alcohol in all the supermarkets and shops.

So my 19 year old son simply shops in the Tesco superstore on his way home. He says he will not use the local shops even when he reaches 21.

Most 18 to 21 year olds are sensible and just want a few beers to watch the match or a DVD with.

A blanket ban is in my view VERY poor policing indeed. Such a Ban is no substitute for Police pressence and just alienates law abiding under 21's.

Funnily one lad who is half Spannish said to the shopkeeper that he was being discriminated against because of his race!!

Aparently the local Co-op fell over itself to let him have the few beers he wanted!!

I large sign was seen at the entrance to the entrance to the carpark of the village pub! The shops traded as normal! There are other pubs in the locality so I don't suppose it will make much difference to the younger drinkers!

No Lisa, I wasn't on horse back at the time. Never ridden one in my life!

AND NO I wasn't drunk either, just to put things right!!!

Whats the feeling of young children being allowed in pubs. Personally I think its totally wrong, when my kids were younger it would have been the last place I took mine with all the cussin', risk of fights breaking out and a smoke laden atmostphere.I'm sure others will think of reasons they shouldn't be in there just as there will be those who think they should be allowed.

Hi Lord B. I would not agree with you in entirity. I have taken both my children and now my grandchildren into country syle pubs for food. However before taking the family in either my wife or self have been in first to have a look at the surroundings and clientelle. We would not take them into an ordinary pub where food is not served.
