2ltr Ford S-Max - Does anyone tow with one?

I'm looking to purchase a new car and I'm looking at the S-Max either the 2ltr or the 2.2ltr, but the 2.2ltrs are few and far between. I'd like to know if anyone tows with a 2 ltr version and how it performs, I'll be towing a Bailey Ranger 54/6, which has aa MTPLM of 1300kg

I've checked the outfit match on whattowcar.com and it's a good match but I'd like to know from someone first has on it's towing ability.

Regards

Rob

Hi

We tow a Bailey Pageant Bretangue series 5 with a 2lt TD S Max. We really like the S Max as a tow car. Tows our van well on both country type roads and motorways. We have 3 kids, plenty of space for them and their gear. We use the 7 seats every so often, easy to use. Mike uses the car for work and has had 7 adults in the car a few times. The S Max is a comfy car and corners well.

Hope this helps

hi Rob,i have the 2.0tdci auto s max.have been towing caravans since the sixties with lots of cars, cortinas, granadas, volvos.in 2001 we bought a new kia sedona 2.9td auto.in 2004 a hyundai terracan.in 2006 hyundai santa fe.we bought our s max new in june 08.what a great tow car,by far the best ive used so far.it has a six geared auto box so it has enough gears for towing a caravan.at present i am towing a swift conqueror 540 2008.it is 1600kg gross.it pulls it like a dream.the thing you have got to watch with modern manual diesels is the dual mass flywheels are weak.so if you are going to struggle to reverse anywhere you are better having a motor mover on caravan.the best fuel consumption i have got is 34mpg the worst 22mpg.i have found that cruising at 60 with the van on i will get 22mpg but if i poodle at 54 i can get 30 plus mpg.i belong to the s max owners club their website is worth a look and the have a towing section, they are a friendly bunch.regards ron.ps i have not had any trouble with ny car and i have towed about 6000 miles with it

Hello Rob.

We tow a Sterling Eccles c1450Kg with a 2l S Max.

It is a great towcar, very stable and lots of torque. Its a really good drive solo and with the van on most of the time its "You can't tell the van is there". I use cruise control on main roads as its so easy to let the speed sneak up with the van on, especially when overtaking wagons etc.

I would enthusiastically recommend the S Max, you will be please with it.

The S-Max is a fine towcar thus it won best in class in the Towcar of the year awards.I tow with the 2.2 diesel which is a mighty towcar and still returns could MPG when towing.

The 2.2's are becoming more common now as they are now coming upto a yeatr old - Ford getting rid of the management cars.

I bought mine from Archers of Ashby who always have a good selection of 2.0 and 2.2's - well worth a look.
