Just wondered does anyone tow with a Chrysler 300C. If so whats it like as a tow vehicle, what do you tow, and whats the noseweight limit. Think we may go there in the not to distant future

I hired one of these beasts (a saloon) out in America last year, and what a beauty it was.I got the one with the 5.7 ltr petrol engine and that was sheer fun on wheels.

Only thought about towing with one, the suspension was very soft, but I don't know whether UK versions get beefed up suspension or not. I commented at the time that it would have sat well low if I had hooked a trailer onto it.

Hi Lee,

The Chrylser 300C is basically the previous generation (before 2005) Mercedes E-class (with very different body panels, interior design and build).

Couple this with the current generation, silky smooth V6 diesel from the new (2006 onwards) E-class but detuned from 240bhp to 215bhp - which means it probably uses the previous generation (before 2005) 5 speed automatic gearbox as that was torque limited to 500NM.

The MB engine is really impressive - certainly the best V6 diesel in production. Based on the previous E-class it will drive and ride very well, but won't be class leading.

My only concern (other than the looks) would be residual values - but if you are buying pre-owned - then it should be a bargain.

Cracking looking car, residuals appear good at the moment, for the deisel that is, I came close to buying new last year, but I was trading a Saab 9-5, and the reason for trading, was I had a new van with the jockey wheel in the centre of the A-frame, which kept grounding out. I thought that this would happen again with the 300, as it sits so low, so shyed away. Bought a new Santa Fe instead, and have not been disappointed.

Dear All.

I did the tow test on the 300C in mid 2006 and I thought it was great. Vision isn't great out of it as you sit quite low, but performance is effortless and certainly in touring spec, we had no problems at all with the rear sitting low.

In the 2007 Towcar Awards, the 300C was well liked, although it wasn't considered to be as well controlled as other cars in its weight category. That said, most of them (Merc E-Class, BMW 5-Series) are a lot more money.

Any specific queries, I'll dig through the archives and see what other info we carry.

Cheers
