Unfortunately I am not allowed to give out a Registration Number here.

But just in case you are reading this site Mr Mitsubishi Warrior with your Lunar Delta in tow travelling down the A38 towards Cornwall last weekedn.

The speed limit on the A38 Devon Expressway for caravans is 60mph. It's the same speed limit as no doubt YOu have in your part of the Country?

I hope that you have your van for a long time, and that your family are all safe and sound. Personally, I wouldn't want to be in a car with you at the wheel.

Just out of interest, we tailed you for a mile in our saloon car (purely out of interest).

I think you'd agree that 86mph (including the use of all three lanes near Plymouth) is pushing it mate!!

Similar experiences here on the M27/A31 - In particular what is it about the blanket 40mph speed limit in the New Forest that people (not just visitors) do not understand?

There have been a number of times I have had a caravan rig (towed by all vehicle types) tailgating me on the B3078 - pushing me to go faster.

Why? - They invariably go into Sandy Balls and that is only a couple of miles up the road.

Keith, A Adria, Citron C5 combination overtook me on the A1 last week doing 85MPH.As I was driving solo at the time I decided to tail him for a mile before I had to turn off the dual carriageway.

I think the heat must have got to his brain ( if he had one) as the unit was swaying and bouncing all over the place particularly as he went past three lorries in a line.

This was very near the A66 where a old gypsy van was hit by a car the caravan driver was killed. This is the second year that someone has been killed by slower moving vehicles being hit by someone driving too fast.

These people don't deserve to have a vehicle or a caravan. Most of us have to save b***dy hard to get what we have, why should it be taken away from us (in an accident etc) by someone who obviously got their licence out of a christmas cracker.

I hope to god when they crash they only harm themselves and no-one else, but undoubtedly they will take some poor sod and their family with them.

It makes my blood boil.

Lolly x

something not quite right with this one, although i totally agree with what keith is saying and 86 is not just stupid it is totally irresponsible i cant help having a problem and it may be splitting hairs but; my father has a mitsubishi shogun sport warrior and although a pretty good car it is only capable of 90 mph flat out down hill solo and at that the needle on the rev counter is on the red line. i doubt the car would tow much above 70 to be honest, it has loads of power but it just runs out of steam due to the low gearing. now another fault with the car is the speedometer which when i follow my father and he does 60 mph i constantly complain becouse my car shows only 48 mph so we did a comparison, i put the sat nav in my car and my speedo was spot on, we put it my dads shogun and the car had to register 74 mph to get the sat nav at 60 mph it is over 10 % inacurate. the car was returned to the dealer who checked it and declared it just within the legal limits so mitsubishi would not replace the speedo. since we have spoken to dozens of owners with the same problem. maybee the chap above new his speedo was out but obviousley he would still have been speeding if his clock showed 86 his actuall would have been nearer 70 mph, still a muppet.

A friend of mine has an L200 warrior and you're right, it tops out at about 90. Apparently though, it does 90 whether empty or with a 3ton trailer on the back. Draw your own conclusion..

No James - on account of the sand being "sharp sand" it is not a good idea. You see those that try walking round Fordingbridge in a great deal of discomfort quietly asking people where they can get E45 cream.

In truth the name Sandy Balls is a derivative of the term "Sand Boules" that describe the large sandy mounds found in this area of the New Forest. I am no geologist but I think I read somewhere that they are glacial deposits.

Whatever they came from - they form a stunning part of the Forest.

You could pull so many holes in this type of survey

Was it carried out in London or in the Country

Was it on a weekday or weekend

Was it observed or derived from a questionaire

As I say you could go on and on and still be no wiser.

I would reckon that the majority of people observed using a phone while driving are probably those who are directors or fairly well up in their companies. It used to be the case that these people bought BMWs and Mercs, now they opt for Range Rovers and X5s. I suspect if the same survey had been carried out ten years ago BMW drivers would have come out badly. Not wearing a seatbelt is probably just caused by them thinking they're above the law because of their positions. I don't believe that driving a 4x4 turns anyone into a menace, it's the driver not the car.
