A man is walking home with his dog at a steady 4mph. With 6 miles to go the dog is let off the leash and runs all the way home at 6 mph. The dog immediately turns and runs back to the man at the same speed, and upon meeting him it turns and runs home again. It continues to run back and forth at the same speed until the man reaches home. What distance has the dog run since being let off the leash?

at 4mph it would take the man 1 and 1/2 hours to walk the 6 miles home. if the dog runs home at 6 mph it would be home in an hour and the man would have only 2 miles left to walk, 1/2 an hour. the dog returns to him at 6mph so takes 20 minutes, then 20 again to go back home, aaaarrrghhhh, forget it, im looking at times, its distance *******^&*&^

Sproket,

As the man will take 1.5hours @4mph to walk the 6 miles home, the dog will have run 6x1.5miles in the same time.So 9 miles
