Now that i have bought myself a motorbike the wife wants to pass her driving test and HAVE the car.The only thing is she doesnt want to drive our current car which is a sorrie as she says its to big for her and she thinks she wont get insured as its her first car so she wants to trade it for something smaller :-(

So the problem is is to find a car that will pull our van a bailey padgent 5 series provance max laden weight of 1401kgs AND be small enough for er in doors to use for driving to work and to drive around the town doing the weekly chores.

So if anyone out there has any suggestions or if you pull the same van with a smaller car than a sorrie please let me know what they are and how they handle towing

Thanks again,

Andy.

I assume a sorrie is a sorento?, one of the most stable towcars available is the Seat Alhambra or its sisters "but that's not a small car!!!" I hear you say, however they are no longer or wider than a vectra/mondeo and the high driving position gives good visibility all around and they are surprisingly easy to drive as well as being much more nimble and sporty to drive than a 4x4, The VW Touran would also be worth a look

We used to tow a Lunar Astara 525 with our Citroen C5 2.0 Hdi (the 136 Bhp model with towing limit of 1700kg).

We have just changed our van to a Bailey Pageant Bretagne (Series 5) with the same MTPLM as yours, and I have to say the car behaves perfectly returning 26mpg whilst towing and closer to 50mpg normally. The other advantage with the C5 when towing is not only a good strong diesel engine but also the self levelling suspension.

I will however say that you would have to get the 136bhp Hdi variant as it has a higher towing limit than all others in the range, and is also about 60kg heavier than the lesser powered diesels. That said when I bought mine, last year, it was one year old, 11000 miles on the clock and cost less than
