Hi, hello to all, my first post.

I am looking for a manual for my 1991 Rallyman. I can work out most things, but the battery and charging system have be puzzled. I can't lights or pump to work from battery. I must be missing some switch somewhere!!

I need to recover wash room, can I use any "fablon" or similar on the market?? I wish they had used something a bit better quality tho', (non-marine ply in a wet area!!) or is this the sort of thing I will get used to in caravans? I am tempted to use some Formica type sheet to make it all a bit smarter.

Hi Bob

Bought a '91 Rallyman last year which has ended up being a rather large project! I have a full set of manuals for the 'van and equipment but I doubt much help you as they don't have detailed wiring diagrams. No matter though as, it's quite simple really to trace connections. All you need is a multimeter, patience and a logical approach to fault finding.

You say that the pump & lights don't work from the battery, but do they work when hooked-up to mains?

Fuses are located on top of the charger unit and also under a small panel underneath the service switches above the gas hob.

My Rallyman suffered from water ingress around all four corners and have just finished repairing the washroom end (the last one thankfully!) As everything is stripped out i'm also looking into suitable wall coverings. My local caravan workshop re-covers with heavy duty vinyl paper and suggests that as long as the joints are well sealed should be Ok.

Hope this helps!

Cheers, John

Thanks John, yes everything works when running on mains. I probably will never need battery power, but I want the insurance of having it! Didn't know about fuses under the switch panel, thanks. Is there a "start-up procedure" in the manual to use battery power?

Mines also leaked at all four corners and at front seam above windows. I had to rebuild one rear corner as it was rotten, leaks where the alloy roof joins to plastic spoiler. Front is also rotten at centre and sides!! Heigh-ho, lots of fun to repair as the year goes on.

You should check that the line fuse between your battery and charger unit is intact as that may be the cause of the problem. It is unwise to run the caravan on the charger alone as the battery regulates the output. Alone the charger can produce up to 14.6v which will not do your wiring any good.

the wall covering originally fitted in your caravan will be a vinyl covered 7 x 4 wall board which should be available from any carvan workshop. The covering should be enough to stop water getting in from your shower as long as you edge them with a good quality acetate silicone sealer.
