Accidental flood damage insurance claim

Can I claim for accidental flood damage which happened in 2023 with old insurance company & only discovered a 18 months later due to being in storage as new company won't cover as incident did not happen whilst insured by them.

Very doubtful if any company will accept a claim How are you going to prove the date happened and you actually caused it yourself

Why didn’t you report it at the time?
I doubt they will accept but you can ask.
Your real problem may be your present Insurers. Did you tell them you had a loss prior to their policy starting?

If your property was covered for such a loss, then you should ask the insurer that held the cover at the time. Only they can tell you if they will accept a claim.

However I also suspect becasue of the time delay and I assume you have changed insurer then it may not be easy. You would need as a minimum need to be able to prove the damage occured whilst they held the policy, and that the nature of the damage was actually covered by the policy.

And to have a good reason for why it was not reported earlier.

With your new insurer have you disclosed that you have previously caused self damage. If not your present insurance may well be void.

Reading a post on another forum, it seems that the poster caused the issue themselves by over filling the toiler cistern, but damage did not become apparent for quite awhile. Either way it is unlikely an insurer will pay for damp damage.

Apparently in a Bailey it does not work that way and drains inside according to his post on another forum. I have no idea on Bailey configurations?

Have had Swift and Bailey both fitted with indentical model toilet and always overflows outside from filler if to much put in.

It probably depends what model of Thetford is fitted

I promise you my last two Baileys had the C200 and now the C250. Both cisterns are sealed unit construction tanks that if overfilled will only leak through the filler hatch.

However there is a lot of widely reported anecdotal evidence that says the leaky Alu tec models allow upper level water ingress via the failed seal to run down the wall and the water collects on the floor around the toilet.
I wonder if some of the authors got their diagnosis wrong?

It’s worth stating that the C200 and C250 units have featured widely for many years in most British manufacturers caravans

Yes. According to all I read it is Alu tec not the cistern
