I really cannot agree with that point of view. My Disco 2,was serviced fully in accordance with JLRs requirements and looked after and driven no differently to other cars before or afterwards. It was an out and out dog. If what you say were correct how come there are reliability indices that show some marques and models
poles apart in reliability?
I did state that "I think" as I do not know a definite answer. After all some LRs go for years without issue. The one I used in the sixties was a Defender type LR and was abused with different drivers every day and it never put a step wrong.

Sounds like I've been lucky.
Though some would argue that a Freelander isn't a real Land Rover mines a little over 20 years old & still giving very good reliable service 👍

My son had a Freelander 2 auto HSE from 2008 which gave excellent service. The only issue was a bearing in the rear transmission which LR fixed FOC even though the car was out of warranty. He let it go last year and now has a Dacia Duster which not as plush as the Freelander is quite can impressive motor and low servicing costs too.
