The legality of the A frame tow system is an ongoing chestnut and Im not aware that any Government organisation has actually declared its position when asked , or if there have been any prosecutions. But better not go there.

On one hand the legality of an A-frame is clear - if the maximum gross weight of the car exceeds 750kg it must be connected with an automatic braked hitch operated by the over-run on all 4 road wheels - with the exception of the French micro-cars, no such cars exist which are under 750kg.

The fact that some countries have made clear that they're banned, emphasises my view that no A-frames are fully legal.

Ever seen a motorhome reverse with the car in tow? Never. I’ve had to reverse car and caravan because the MH idiot said he couldn’t .

Problem is the long overhang on a motorhome then a short hitch to the towed car. Even worse if the car is towed on an A frame.
