Oh, really Stinky!

Human rights ??! That's ridiculous. Surely you don't seriously think that THIS is a case for a human rights lawsuit.

It's an issue about an "adults only" caravan site for God's sake, not some group who wants to send children and little old ladies down the pit! No disrespect to children and little old ladies you understand - I was one and will be one some day :).

If you use that argument, then the people who want to be able to go to a site that don't allow children have a case too.

Strip joints/bookies/massage parlours etc. are "adults only" - do you want them to allow children in as well on the grounds that to bar them is against their "human rights".

For every caravan site that is "adults only" there are a dozen which are not. I'm sure that children are not being deprived.

There are too many ludicrouus misuses of the Human Rights Act nowadays. It is

There's too many

Strip joints/bookies/massage parlours etc. are "adults only". This is to protect the children from danger or themes of an adult nature. Name me a past time that exludes kids for the enjoyment of adults (apart from caravaning).

There are loads of pubs for all to use and if there was a white or blacks only pub, using your theory, there would be no problem as the exluded group can go elsewhere. So why don't we see "white only pubs"? Easy, it's illigal to discriminate in this inclusive society.

Kids are treated with the same courtesy as dogs at the adult only sites.

Regards

Pete

I have 3 grown ups and 7 grandchildren and we quite often go to a beautiful site called the Old Oaks at Glastonbury we go there not because its child free ,but because its a beatiful place with really large pitches ,and i think in a free and democratic society i should be free to go to what site i like ,without some politicaly correct person telling what to do

i agree wholeheartedly with adult only sites having brought up 3 lads, who having camped with us most of there age are now old enough to do their own thing(21 23 27)2 still being at home(HELL).

it's absolutely wonderful to have space, peace and tranquility, having had discos, crowded camp sites,so much noise and mayhem, which i might add i thoroughly enjoyed.

but i wonder if it's a good thing on reflection, having read this topic, there seem s to be some aged adolescents and who wants a site full of them?????? so beware you may never get away from children

I don't have a problem with people wanting to use adult only sites, after all there is freedom of choice with the amount of sites there is in this country.

However, I do have a problem when other people starting griping about children (which I have) and dogs (which I don't). It seems to me that whenever this topic comes up it sparks off the same heated debate, which actually spoils to forum for me in some ways.

Please don't tar every child/dog/vanner with the same brush as everyone is different and likes different types of sites.

As I write this Im scanning the skies for a bolt of lightning coming my way!!

Our 2 wonderful children have now left home, we dont have any Grand children yet, weve got a dog (well behaved, and yes I clean up the mess), we have a brand new caravan and are collecting our brand new car on Sunday, Oh dear and yep there both German!!

The thing is weve loved caravaning for over 25 years, have used both Adult only and great sites with kids.

We run a business and work VERY hard, our caravan holidays and week-end are a joy to us, were open minded and love to have a goood gossip on site.

Please every one try to live and let live, were not here for that long, Caravanning is big enough to take all sorts, find what suits you and ENJOY!!

I agree,

Whether you have a new caravan, what ever the car: enjoy ALL the sites.

For those with children enjoy the sites that allow you on.

Seems a bit exclusive in an inclusive society though.

Ann,

I have also started making a list of adult only sites.

1.netherwoodtouringsite.co.uk

2.willowhouseyork.co.uk

3.lambcottage.co.uk This one we have stayed on and the facilities were excellent. The owners said that when they took over the park it was for families, but so much damage was being done by unsupervised children in toilets etc.that they made the decision to become adult only.We used it only because it happened to be the nearest to where my son and his family live, and were very impressed.

Thanks for your info, Maureen. It is nice to know what these sites are really like. I have been on the internet and google and have now about 40 sites to have a go at. Let me know if you want a list - by area - I will be pleased to pass a list to you.

Some friends of our stayed on Stroud Hill Park (Cambridgeshire) and couldn't praise the site enough:

www.stroudhillpark.co.uk

Maybe you would like to check out the website.

I think Ann's suggestion for Adult only is a great idea, then all the vanners who dont like kids (unlike us)can gather in the one place and moan about us vanners that do have little cherbubs!! and we can have peace and quiet without worry if we are upsetting anyone that way everyone is happy.

Yvonne,

I am sorry that you are upset regarding the use of Adult only sites. We have 9 grandchildren who we love to bits. Our son and his family also caravan and in the autumn we all 'vanned together in the Lake District,BUT occasionally we like to have the right to choose somewhere quiet as children can be very tiring .....it's not that we don't like them.

some people seem to have grasped the idea of adult only sites wrong??

its not that 'WE DONT LIKE CHILDREN'weve all had children for gods sake, and loved every minute of our and other peoples childrens company.but after youve had at least 16 years of it, beleive me, youll be glad of an adult site as well.we still go caravanning with freinds who have young children.but it is nice to get away from all that and just completely chill.

lets face it,if your kids are not happy then neither are you,if they are,you are.no kids means no worries, and its up to you to be happy YOURSELF

Yvonne, I am pleased to see that you understand that it is better for people who do not want to caravan with children to go elsewhere.

My observations, gained over many years, suggest that your utopia of happy families all socialising and being happy together may be wishful thinking. I have seen quite a few disagreements between parents when their children fall out or are being bullied etc but I have never seen one involving a family and lone adults.

Why do some people get all uppity if you mention Adult Only sites? Why is it some people cannot see that all children aren't cherubs? I've 2 sons and a daughter and have 6 grandchildren. We see them often so we aren't anti-kid. What I do want is a freedom of choice. Although Ive only used adult sites once it would be nice to be able to use them in the future or mention them on this forum without some thinking we are child haters. What they need to remember is that we have brought our own children up and have earned a bit of peace if we so desire it. I just hope they remember putting their thoughts into print on this forum in years to come when their children are off their hands. They might have mellowed by then and have a different outlook on life in their senior years. In the words of an old ex ambulance colleague of mine when I used to make fun of his age - "I've made it this far - you have still to do it" . Yvonne, read through your postings in future and reconsider your thoughts before hitting the submit button. You are not the first person to have children, we have all been there before you and if after bringing up our own kids and requiring a little peace so be it. If you dont like it .... tough :OP

Hope you turn up next year. Some of us will be out and about in our 4x4 knocking over people and creating our own personal ozone hole. Some of us will be on horses running down foxes while some are sabotaging the hunt. Some of us will be watching TV and some out for a walk. Some of us will be drunk while the women remain sober and tutt at us from a distance. Some will have children and some still have hair left. Some will have windbreaks up and some will be full of wind. Oh and Big Roy will be wearing his thong!

You can't miss us.....
