Oh by the way Tina, after we had finished cleaning the inside of the ambulance we slammed the doors shut and guess what slid down the panel below the door???? - a piece of diced carrot, - lmaooooo unbelievable but true, Steve and I just creased up laughing. I miss my colleagues at work but regarding the job I miss it like I'd miss a boil on my ass :O( With my payout I upgraded my car to a VW Passat Auto Estate and bought a 2004 Abbey GTS Vogue 217 and have enjoyed every minute of life since. Wifey and I have been away in it 17 times so far this year. Carry on doing the good work Tina although a lot of people treat you as a taxi, but in that respect times dont change, that was the same when I started 28 years ago.

Colin, how some of the Police used to take the insults that was hurled at them I just do not know. Drunken yobs yelling "pig" about 6 inches from their face and they just have to stand there and take it. Thats another job I couldnt do because I would have to rip their head off. Then again I suppose Ive been cursed many times over the years and shown restraint. It was hard though. I remember in my early years and we had a violent patient so had a policeman with us escorting him. Suddenly the patient turned violent and during our struggle the officer said "should I cuff him". Not liking the sight of blood (heheh) I said not just yet then later realised later he meant "handcuff him" heheheh.Lord B and Tina

That brought a smile to my face. However I'm afraid I would have cuffed him and then asked, but then I'm an old ****** who can just about remember when you could cuff a kid and if he told his dad he got another. Ahhh The good old days I'm like you don't miss the job miss the mates.

Having been in further education for many years I have noticed the decline in student attitude, capabilities and respect not only for the lecturer but for society in general. I must agree with all other comments from Tina, Lord B., etc. This country has become far too PC and the sooner we ship all these do-gooders off to some outer posting and return society to its former glory the better for me. My son has today told my wife and self that as soon as he achieves his degree he is off to Australia, New Zealand or Canada where the traditional teachings of life are still in being. My answer to him is GOOD LUCK this country has had it.

Totally agree Colin and all these reasons is why my husband is retiring early, next year. Teachers generally are so demoralized with the type of students they are forced to take as each one has a monetary value to the school,college etc., but sadly many of them don't want to learn. Years ago he started many students onto good lives all over the world, but now many of them can't even read or write and the Governments should be ashamed when pupils have been in school for 11 years or more.In reply to Merv I do not think in a negative format. Don't know which sites you've stayed on Brian, but you sound like you've been done up like a kipper so to speak.
We have stayed at Two Mills in Norfolk, Plough Lane at Chippenham and Bath Chew Valley. All the pitch sizes without exception have been huge. We have certainly not felt that we have not been overcharged and the people, both guests and staff have been utterly charming and totally outward going.
We do not use these sites exclusively but enjoy them immensely when we do. If we don't want children buzzing around our 'van from early morning to late at night, we go away during school term time. If we want to go away during July and August - which is very rare 'cos we won't subscribe to grossly inflated prices - then we go to an "Aults Only" site.

Shiraz I have to disagree with your opinion, I am as closely conected to the teaching profession as you are (ie pupil then parent) which I think means neither of us know what its really like from the teachers side!. I have a son whom I love dearly but on the odd occassion that the wife and I get away with out him I fully intend to try to go to adults only sites mainly because a lot of parents these days dont teach their children to have any respect for other people, their property or their privacy.
Due to this lack of respect that parents seem to teach their children, teachers these days have no way of controlling some of the children. As for your comments about the police and medical profession I cannot believe that you think unarmed police officers go out and face armed criminals just for the money , after all they could earn just as much doing a far safer job. I am sure that my niece was only in it for the money when she spent multiple friday and saturday nights in A&E being abused, spat at and physically assaulted trying to patch up drunks just because the pay for a junior doctor is so amazing.

Hi Richard H - Sorry you disagree with my opinion and perhaps I should express myself another way. I beleive that more than 95% of schoolchildren are a credit to their parents, the schools they attend and that they give respect where it is deserved. I meet a lot of children when caravanning and believe they, if listened to they can hold a very good and sensible conversation with you. I have also found that if you meet them half way in any situation they will respond in a similar manner.
I also subscribe to the fact that if you meet a group of youngsters on your own then mob culture may prevail.
I live in the NE of England and find that we locally have a very capable and talented group of youngsters, and most of them are a very important part of the community.
I mainly use CC sites and CL's and some of the children you meet when I am there are a credit to their parents and society.
with regard to respect I will always maintain that respect has to be earned. and how I long for the days when, lawyers didnt chase ambulances, that the village policemen who had the power to clip you around the ear. school teachers who teached and who went to sites who also accepted children etc,etc,etc.

Mind you I think this is because the parents with these children are also of the same upstanding. Unfortunately, without sounding snobish in any way, the rougher children generally are from the poorer rough areas whose parents cannot afford the luxuries of a caravan holiday. These children are allowed out at all times of day and night and create mayhem, whether it be at school or on the streets. Their parents are in the meantime either in the pub or betting office as they have unfortunately no employment. Children brought up in this environment generally, as they know no better, go down the same route as their parents. These are the children you read about in the papers causing trouble and these children are the ones that desperately deserve help to improve their prospects. What I can't understand colin is why teachers avoid sites that take children when you and I see a different view, one of well balanced children behaving as children when on their free time. I beleive that some of the blame for lack of respect for teachers must be placed at the teachers own door.
When my son was going through his senior school we used to visit on opening days and talk about his acheivements, progress etc. and we were amazed what differences were apparewnt in different subjects, I asked one of the masters was he talking about my son as the previous teacher had given a totally opposite report. I also noted that teachers would not call a child a dunce etc. but would dress up there reports to read the way the parents would like to hear. thus avoiding confrontation.
when children read the reports they knew that what was said was not true how could they give the writer any respect.
My son I might say is now the managing director of his own company with a very large turnover per year. this from a boy who was deemed to be a loser by some of the teachers involved in his education !!!
