Age restrictions on site

After years of camping in tents with our large family, we decided to save up and buy a caravan. Not having a very big budget and not wanting to spend too much on our first caravan, we found a Compass omeaga 1989 selling locally.

One our first trip last weekend, we went into reception and were told to go and find ourselves a pitch and fill in our booking form when ready.

We found our pitch and popped up the awning. Sat down with a nice glass of wine, found a pen and stared to fill in our booking from. To my horror i read we do not except caravans older than 15 years.

I took the booking from back and said i was sorry but was nt sure what age the caravan was and she told me not to worry have a good weekend.

Now if i was to have told this lady the right year would i have been kicked off the site i wonder.

Is this a normal rule on site, or was this just a one off?

Perhaps some one could enlighten me please.

I've never heard of that on touring sites - but many static caravan sites have age restrictions - did the site have statics as well as tourers?

I'm guessing the others are right, it probably applies to Statics.

IF however it does apply to tourers, I hate sites with rules like that. I would refuse to give them my custom. There's lots of caravans older than 15 years and still in very good serviceable condition too. There's a site near me, with a MASSIVE field, who refuse Twin Axle caravans. WHY?!?! The site is plenty big enough to accommodate them.

Fortunately, ours is a single axle but I do feel for the TA owners. It's a nice site.

Well, there we have it - the answer to the age old riddle of why UK caravans fall to bits after a few short years.

It's a design feature to keep sites free from old vans ๐Ÿ˜‰

(come to think of it, it's probably also the reason why some sites ban German caravans - they last longer than 15 years)

The site i was talking about did have static caravans on too.

But the form i filled in was for tourers.

Thank you for all your feedback, its good to hear that this is not a restristion used on the majority of sites.
