Hi, on the Hymer Nova, I recently bought it is fitted with a AL-KO aks 2000 hitchlock stabiliser, not being sure how much work this has done in the past & it being a heavy van. I am considering changing it, ( as I have a new home for it on my trailer ).

Question being which one do I buy to replace it ??

Has anybody got any views on the

Winterhoff WS3000 & the AL-KO aks 3004 ??

For ease of use ?? Security ?? Problems ??

Thanks in advance for your replies

I had the winterhoff on my last van and 3004 on my current one. I have not noticed any difference in whilst towing, but then again unless you had instability how would you know?

I found the releasing of the stabaliser and unhitch lever easier with the winterhoff and also there was no problems hitching or unhitching with my rear door mounted spare wheel.

I believe replacement pads are much more expensive for a winterhoff compared with the alko.

If it were me I would buy the cheapest new winterhoff or 3004 I could find on ebay. A brand new winterhoff sold last week, for local collection, at

Steve,

The German ADAC (similar to the AA - but perform detailed product testing and car crash testing) tested all the tow-coupling stabilisers a year or so back.

The Winteroff WS3000 and the AL-KO AKS 3004 came out equal in first place.

Tempo 100 in Germany (the approval to tow a caravan at 100 kph) requires the use of a tow-coupling stabiliser - and those two models are quoted as examples...

So no technical reason to choose one over the other. Availability, price, spares, ease-of-use will dictate... Robert
