Alco wheel lock.

I will post this in General as well for the non technical types.

With my shiny new Abbey I was given a nice shiny new Alco wheel lock.

I feel that this piece of kit is very much in the chocolate fireguard catogary, Or is it me???

The theroy is great BUT if your insurence co. insist that the wheel lock is fitted ( quite reasonable ) and you are on a slight incline it is virtuly imposible to line up the locking bolt with the alloy wheel particularly on your own. Even with a mover, which I have, It can be a bit of a pain as you then have to fit the lock before winding up the steadys and if you are blocking up one side for level then it becomes downright impossible.

Question. In view of fact that it was given it as free and unasked for.Do I have a case to ask for if to be changed on a fittness for use basis.

mike if you dont want it ill av it off you. Some of the reports have been excellant for the product but I cant afford a new one!

So if you need to use blocks on one side of the Van how do you line up the wheel in order to fit the device as well as putting the wheel on the block.

Look forward to your answer as I must have missed something.

Hi

Use one on a Bailey and with the use of a motor mover its a doddle to fit. Insurance co loves it and gives good discount for using it

i level mine with a few boards and then roll it along slightly til it lines up it only usually needs a few inches of movement to locate it

There's an article in this months' CC mag about the Alko Wheel Lock, and how thieves had managed to cut two off of a twin axle caravan. Fortunately the perpertrators were disturbed before they could make off with the caravan!

Saying that we've got them on our 'van, and they are a pain in the proverbiable!!:O)

I read the article in the cc magazine. They used oxy acetaline to cut them off. I can't believe that in the process of cutting them that they didn't damage/burn the caravan chassis or underfloor, which to me would be a pointless excercise

You need a longer board in conjunction with the wheel clamp or level with a jack
