Alde heating night time temp (winter)

Does anyone have any advice on night time temperature settings for alde heating?

There seems to be very little correlation between the alde dial and the actual van temperature, and in order to save a couple more nights experimentation, that have so far left us dripping with sweat and then nearly frozen to the core, we could do with some tips.

We will be hooked up to 16 amps if it helps point us in the right direction.

Saves a lot of cycling noise activity in the night, along with us being too hot under the winter duvet.

edit: we would normally be on LPG, so have the boiler noise along with circulating pump cycling.

What temperature would you have set at home at night?

We have had two vans with Alde heating and found that they hold a fairly constant temperature. However, I managed to improve the fluctuation further by adding a remote temperature sensor sending unit which I placed over the lounge. So less affected by being close to the door.

Other than that. We set it to around 14c. But it really depends on personal preference.

Unfortunately having a dial with temperatures marked on it can be a problem, becasue the accuracy of those setting is significantly affected by the actual position of the sensor. Its quite common to find a 5 degree or more difference between the set temperature and the comfort of the heating in the caravan. Other issues such as the heater may turn down automatically but may seem reluctant turn up again as the temperature drops is quite common.

Logically if you have tried two settings, and one was too hot and the other too cold, try halfway between those settings, and repeat the process using the halfway mark each time, you should fairly quickly establish the prefered setting.

But that setting may prove inadequate if the external temperature changes. Each caravan can be different as can the expectations of each user , so what may be right for any other caravanner may not be right for you.

In winter months we have the ALDE system set to 17C at night between the hours of 10pm and 6am. During the day set to 20C. Worked for us and a comfortable night's sleep. However I was not aware that ALDE used a dial system so must be a very old caravan?

We have room temperature monitoring as a feature of our electronic travelling radio synced clock and have say are impressed by the matching between the readings that displays and those on the Alde display.

Either the setting up is well sorted or both are remarkably out by the same amount.
Despite being a "bit" technically incline I have never felt the need to calibrate either, I just alter the Alde setting if too hot or too cold..

Having owned a fair few motorhomes and caravans I have come to the conclusion that the temperature shown on the controls are basically cosmetic! The only thing I found worked was to use ProfJohns "trial and error" method.
Don't forget to write down what settings you end up with as months later you will have forgotten them

When we had Alde we just got used to the Guess-o-meter and set it to what was comfortable regardless of the number on the screen. We prefer it cold at night, but not freezing the pipes so around 10 degrees did the job on ours.
