I think this may have been on before but I forget what the replies were. The problem I am having is hitching up. The handle of the stabiliser is VERY stiff to put down. I have to practically stand on it to force it down. Will I be doing it any harm, or has anyone a remedy. Ken

Hi Kenneth,

This is my second van with an alko stabiliser and if it is as stiff to push down as you say then it is definitely not right. It does need some force but certainly not practically standing on it.

Sorry I don't know the remedy but I'm sure someone who does will be along soon.

It sounds as if your side pads have been replaced. When this is done, there are shims that need to be removed or added to ensure that it has the correct tension. Details can be found on the Alko website under support here:

Thanks SBS your reply was most helpful. I took the pads out and there were shims in both side. These must have been in since I put the stabiliser on about 3 years ago. It didn't seem to be too stiff to apply when I first put it on but as time went by it got harder and harder to apply the handle. Perhaps my age helped a wee bit to that also. Anyway that's the job done now and it is perfect. Didn't realise it was such an easy job. Had thought about taking it into a caravan repairer. PHEW. Ken
