Alko Stabilizer and Lock

Sorry to have to appear so b----y ignorant but I am a new boy and have just purchased a van which has Alko stabilizer and lock fitted. Please -- what is its exact function.

Thanks in anticipation

well keith, you are very lucky to have a alko fitted,

1. it is a stabilizer, you do not need to have a manual one fitted (thats the long bar that are normally attatched to the car and caravan) it works brilliantly as a stabilizer, the arm/ handle locks on to the ball when pushed down and that is your stabilizer.

2. the lock is very good , the best bit is that it can be fitted when towing , this prevents worry when stopping at service stations, so your van cannot be unhitched while you are not their

3 did you get a little red ball with a triangle handle. If so this is fitted when you unhitch to store anywhere, the ball fits in your hitch ,you then put your lock on and the caravan again cannot be hitched.

the alko is the best stabilizer/lock combination and oftrn retails at around

Just to expand on Glen's informative answer, it is recommended that you fit the AL-KO lock when you stop for a break and then remove it before starting off.

If you are ever unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident, then the rescue services may need to separate car and caravan to pull them or you to safety. If the AL-KO lock is fitted - they're stuck - and need specialist equipment to remove it.
