All terrain tyres?

Not strictly a tow car question but related. My new tug is a Mitsubishi L200 Warrior (series 5). The dealer has replaced the tyres with new but on investigation they are not particularly good quality ones (joyroad). It is in my thinking to replace them in the not too distant future.
We caravan all year round and I am looking for a tyre that will perform well on the road but also can tow my van off a muddy field any recommendations?

Just recently had a thread on this re my Mitsi. Mine had the awful Dunlop At20 which are the original fit, and I have just replaced mine with BF Goodrich Ats. So far, I am very impressed with them.

Having done serious off reading with 4x4 clubs and had Sorento and Disco 2 all I can say is you get what you pay for and BFG AT are the best there are. Good road performance good mileage and good off road traction. If you want more off road abilty go MT but your on road drive will not be as good. But there will be some situations where even AT won’t get you off s field with van in tow. But that’s the joy.

I used to use General Grabber MT's on a LWB - Landrover 110.

I tried lots of different tyres (was able to do swap overs with club friends to try them out), the General Grabbers were excellent in the rough stuff and excellent for on road use, and wear was not an issue with them at all, and cost less than BFGoodrich, the BF Goodrich were very good also, but the Grabbers were better for normal road use.

I have gone for Knokian Weatherproofs on my Santa Fe, we went through some 6 inches to A foot deep FRESH snow last year no problem , but a muddy field might be different thing. A great tread pattern, and great road holding in the wet and dry.

Had the BFGs ATs on my last Sorento. Great tyres. Lasted 40 k but were a bit noisy on some roads. Not so bad and soon got use to it. I’d buy again :cheer:

My son has them on his FL2 and was very impressed with them during the Beasts visit. He lives in Wales and need good traction fir where he visits

OC I remember you saying about your sons FL2 , and I must admit that these tyres are very nice a good tyre, I wanted the Avon ATT tyre which I had before but they didn't make them in the size for my SF.

Hutch
If you look at the Nokia’s tread pattern they are not that different to some AT tyres that I’ve had in the past. Ie Falken Wild Peaks and Yokohama AT. So they may be a bit better in some muddy conditions than you think. Test at your own risk of course.
