One of our mobile phone contracts was ending so decided to switch providers, first provider provided Pac code and all went well, new provider sent text saying phone number would be switched next day, since then nothing, original provider says definitely left them on 12 July, new provider finally admitted today number was rejected from their system 12 July, this after me being told by customer service each day that it would be working in 24 hours, the problem now is that the number is used as part of 2 part payment verification for bank payments, also for log in on credit card site etc. Worst thing is no one can tell me where the number is. Customer services at new provider keep saying we are working on it , give it time. OK says I, I will cancel and go back to original provider, 'can't do that until the problem is sorted' So currently have no useable phone and no indication of when it will be working, any suggestions please? New provider is doing every little to help.

Sorry to hear about your problems. I've switched numerous times and had no problems - luck of the draw I guess.

A true measure of many a company is how good their customer service is when you need them. Most of the time with things like, Bank, Electricity, Broadband, Mobile Phones etc, the things just keep working ok. Then you run into a problem and the customer service appears to be non-existent. The on-line help doesn't and you have a hard time getting through to a real person.

I've only had two occasions to call on my mobile phone customer service with Three. In one case a top-up didn't get applied and in the other I couldn't log into a new account for my wife. To my amazement the on-line chat, with a supposedly real person, went very well and both cases were fixed very quickly.

Other customer support like my ex-electric company were a joke.

Hope you get it fixed.

Oh the joys of two factor verification. I would be absolutely stumped if my phone fell between the two entities. Hope the new company get it sorted soonest.

If you were given a PAC by your old provider your number should transfer as well and remain unchanged. If the new provider cannot connect on your old number you should contact OfCom.

If you use this web site it should tell you who the number is registered with.

My number

One other possibilty if you can't get it sorted out soon, is to get a new Sim card (with new number) from your original supplier and then try and get a PAC code from your new supplier to move the number back to the original supplier. If that works you could then try again to move it to the new supplier.

A bit confused.com I know and try at your own risk etc :)

Sorted
We noticed that if we phoned the old number it went straight to answerphone of original provider. 02 .rang them and they said number had gone so couldn't still have their answerphone, they tried it and said couldn't happen but obviously it was , said thay would try to get the number back, 3 hours later got our number back and working, so staying with 02, except they now say number is not active on their system, so maybe I will be getting free phone usage LOL. Other provider, very little helps, continues to e mail asking for time, having had a week already, and today asked me to pay £15 top up on a monthly contract phone that has had the first month paid up front so I suppose if you want frozen peas don't go to a phone shop, and if you want a phone don't go to a shop that sells frozen peas.
