I learnt the hard way years ago and never allow automatic updates without reading others experiences. This latest update is not well received and even for,the techies has caused issues I read.
Seems one big problem is access and storage etc of photos and videos.
I struggles as an IT buffoon and really don’t want an upgrade that’s going to cause me stress!
Any one have experiences of IOs 18 please?

I’ve recently updated my IphoneSE to IOS 18. It’s only 64gb storage and initiallly told me it could not update to Ios18 as at 61gb stored it required 9gb and so not enough room. My photos and short videos (11500ish) only took up 2.37 gb as they are stored in iCloud and those on the phone are lower resolution. My music was 19.8gb and this was the culprit.

So I connected the phone to my MACMINI and you could see it in Finder alongside my back up drive and another portable hard drive that holds lots of videos from holidays past.

I then went in to Music and asked the MAC MINI to sync music with the IPhone but I only selected two albums. So effectively it removed all the IPhones Music apart from the two albums I had synched. Then I updated to IOS18. After IOS18 had been installed I then went through the Music and selected the albums and playlists that I most favoured and synched to the IPhone. That was only 12.46gb of memory so I’ve got scope for further updates to IOS18 as the phone is now at48.3 gb of its 64 gb

It loaded on fine and I’ve had no problems with it.

Totally wasted on me Clive. Seems an awful lot of tech work and understanding required.
So what exactly does your phone do now that it didn’t before?
What’s a mini mac? Do I need one?

Best to look on Apple to see what IOS18 features are.

My MAC mini is a computer without a screen or keyboard. It’s all solid state and mine is three years old. About the size of a small drive block, but the latest is about 60% of the size of mine. It’s connected to a Dell screen and sound bar. But you can connect your phone into an IMac or laptop and you should see it appear in Finder. Then just click on Music and follow my instructions. If your photos are all stored on the iPhone just copy them to a USB drive or your back up drive and delete from iPhone. Then install IOS18 and then put pictures back.

As I said originally even the techies have struggled in formatting and things beyond me.Their concern is that you can’t go back to the previous setting. My main computer is Microsoft . All photos are stored in the cloud.
I and others can’t see what the benefits of this upgrade bring. None by all accounts.
I’ m glad I don’t permit auto upgrades on my I pad and phone👏

Bit of a waste of my time then. Just stay with IOS 17 and you will still receive security updates.
