ardgarten c&c site

I was at the c&c club site at Ardgarten by Arrochar at the weekend for the first time, and found it a lovely, and quiet site. I was then saddened to hear that it will be closing at the end of September for good, as the camping and caravanning club won`t be renewing the lease. What a sad end to such a lovely site.

Unfortunately I put it down to being a casualty of the dreaded midge, going the same way as the neigbouring River Croe CC site did a few years ago. We went to the C&CC site a while back, intending to stay a few days, the best we could tolerate was a few minutes - the midges were HORRENDOUS!!

I agree with Wendy, this was the first ever Scottish site we'd stayed at, should have been there for a week before going on to Edinburgh for another week. We managed to last 3 days before admitting defeat, the wardens very kindly refunded the rest of the week's money and said they sympathised with us, and it was a regular occurrence for people to leave early. Luckily, the CC site we were next going to were able to fit us in early. Shame, as the Ardgarten site is in a lovely setting.

Nothing to do with midges!!!!!!. The landowner has not renewed the lease. I heard rumours that he is planning to build a hotel on the site. The Forestry site nearer Arroncahar is managed by the c and c club so you get the same view but not quite so quiet.

So I guess instead of a bathrobe in your hotel room, you'll get one of those hats with the fine mesh midge-proof nets attached.......

Everybody does know that, thanks - unfortunately there are those of us who get bitten regardless of what preparation they use!!
I personally don't rate the Avon stuff anyway!
