At last some Good News!

It is good news for her and the other hostage who has been released, and their families too, But given that the US paid their debt in 2016 and released four US nationals shortly afterwards, it is an absolute disgrace that we did not do likewise. How many foreign secretaries have we had in the period?

Clive - thoroughly agree with you, that aside undoubtebly I'm sure we're all so pleased that Nazalin and Ashoori will be both back with their families soon, after unimaginable years of fear..... At last!

Spot on Clive. It was always about the £400 million we owed . Just because we didn’t like the change in regime didn’t mean it was right to hang onto their cash.
It seems that the US was the main player blocking the repayment of the debt due to the regime change?

Like everyone glad to know both have been released after their long period of imprisonment. Hope they can now enjoy life with their families and go forward to experience a wonderful future together.

Strangely enough US owed millions too. They paid up circa four years ago and the Iranians released the American hostages. You may ask why the UK didn’t do the same at the time🤔🤔🤔

As said US blocked payments up to when Biden became president. However it is okay to pay ransom if they are American citizens.

None of us know the true facts behind the release of any of the hostages, so any speculation surrounding the release of different nationalities with no proof is pointless.
Just be happy for the released hostages and their families, and save the politics for elsewhere.

The reason for the delay in repaying the debt was reported in the newspapers and also on the BBC and it did involve politics, but not British politics, so not speculating. A Google will bring this up if you search back. Of course every one is happy that the hostages have been released. 😀

Oh well, it must all be gospel truth if it's in the newspapers Buckman🙄
Comparisons between US foreign policy and British foreign policy have no place on this Caravan forum.
There is significant US involvement in the ownership and administration of the website and forum.
As a forum moderator I don't mind allowing the expansion of core subjects to include comments about items of national interest, but I'm not going to allow forum members to cast aspersions about the government of the forum host company or of their President.
