audi a4

My friend trevor just bought a 2004 audi a4 1.8 turbo petrol estate and is in the process of buying his first van a bailey pagent bordeaux, we have looked at the towmatch site but could not find an estate version of the car on it, but it does seem a good match he is worried that it may not have enough torque on a petrol model. does anybody have experience of one. thanks in advance trevor and luke

Lack of torque doesn't necessarily make a car unsuitable for towing. So long as the power is adequate, it just means that one would have to change gear a bit more often to keep the revs up. It's only more relaxing to drive one with plenty of torque at low revs.

Thanks Lutz, Trevor was a bit nervous about the car as he is going to be towing for the first time with his wife ,young daughter 16 months old and the dog, and to top it all off his first trip we be to lake garda with us in august at least we will all be together in convoy and thats more than i had on our first trip, and at least at this stage i have half an idea what what needs doing so we will be grand. thanks again Lutz.

By the way i also should have mentioned that its an 85 % match at just over 1500 kg pulling 1300 kg with 161 bhp so it should be fine

Audi A4 car weights:Audi are unusual in that they give each individual car a weight, which takes into account model/engine/accessories etc.

My own 2003 A4 Avant Quattro 1.9 diesel has this information on a piece of white sticky paper attached to the service book and this is reputed to exist somewhere under the bonnet as well. The handbook shows you how to interpret the sticky, which has lots of information on it.

In my case the Audi calculated weight is 1632 kgs.

Turbo petrol engines usually have excellent torque - the VAG 1.8T is no exception.

It's normally aspirated petrol engines that have less torque but I've never actually found it a problem.
